AV:Link Cables & Leads

Audio-visual cables and leads carry sound, video and data between devices such as TVs, projectors, amplifiers, games consoles and routers. This range is AV:Link throughout, including HDMI leads in 4K, 8K and active fibre optic versions, Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a and Cat7 patch leads, RCA, 3.5mm and 6.3mm audio leads, TOSlink optical, coaxial, USB, VGA and RJ11 modem leads, a SCART lead and adaptor leads, in lengths up to 150m.

Choosing AV:Link Cables & Leads

Choose a lead by the connectors at the two ends, the signal it carries and the length of the run.

HDMI

HDMI leads carry video and audio together. High speed 4K leads such as the 112.135UK are rated 18Gbps, leads such as the 112.247UK have aluminium head-shells and gold plated connectors, and HDMI extension leads such as the 112.151UK support HDCP 2.2. For long runs, active fibre optic HDMI leads such as the 112.190UK carry 4K at 18Gb/s over 10m.

Network

Ethernet RJ45 patch leads run from 0.5m to 30m. Cat6 UTP leads carry 1Gbps at 250 MHz and are snag-less, and Cat7 S/FTP leads such as the 113.715UK are rated 10Gbps at 600MHz.

Audio

RCA (phono) leads connect stereo audio, 3.5mm and 6.3mm jack leads connect headphones, instruments and mixers, and TOSlink fibre optic leads carry digital audio over lengths up to 10m.

Older connections

A SCART lead and a 2-way SCART splitter, VGA leads, coaxial aerial leads, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 leads, and RJ11 modem leads cover older TVs, computers and broadband connections. The 'Magic Eye' remote control extender lets you change channels on a satellite box from another room. Adaptor leads such as the 122.430UK USB Type-C to 3.5mm adaptor, at 4.5 cm, and the 122.437UK HDMI to VGA adaptor convert between connector types.

Frequently asked questions

Which HDMI lead do I need for 4K?

Choose a lead rated for 4K at 18Gbps, such as the AV:Link 112.135UK thin-wire high speed lead. For runs of 10m, an active fibre optic HDMI lead such as the 112.190UK keeps the 4K signal at 18Gb/s over the full length.

What is an active fibre optic HDMI lead?

It carries the HDMI signal as light over optical fibre, with electronics in the connectors, so the signal holds up over long runs where copper leads struggle. AV:Link 112.190UK and 112.290UK are 10m 4K leads, and the 112.290UK has a detachable plug, so only a 12mm diameter hole need be drilled.

What is the difference between Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat7 patch leads?

They are rated for different speeds. AV:Link Cat6 UTP leads carry 1Gbps at 250 MHz, and Cat7 S/FTP leads such as the 113.715UK are rated 10Gbps at 600MHz with shielding. Cat5e leads, such as the 30.0m 113.166UK, suit standard gigabit connections.

How do I connect a TV to a soundbar with an optical lead?

Use a TOSlink fibre optic lead between the TV's optical audio output and the soundbar's optical input. AV:Link TOSlink leads run up to 10m, and the 112.215UK has nickel plated heads and gold plated tips on a 5mm diameter cable.

Is there an HDMI extension lead?

Yes. The AV:Link 112.151UK is a 0.5m 4K HDMI extension lead with a plug at one end and a socket at the other, high speed and gold plated, supporting HDCP 2.2. It helps where a TV's HDMI ports are hard to reach behind a wall bracket.

Can I still get a SCART or VGA lead?

Yes. AV:Link makes a 1.5m male to male SCART lead with nickel plated connectors, a 2-way SCART splitter that connects 2 sources, and VGA plug to plug leads in 2.0m (113.101UK) and 5.0m (113.102UK), for older TVs, projectors and monitors that do not have HDMI inputs.

What is an RCA lead used for?

RCA (phono) leads carry analogue stereo audio or composite video between older equipment such as amplifiers, CD players and TVs. AV:Link RCA leads run up to 10m, including 2 x RCA stereo leads, and a three RCA plug lead carries combined stereo audio and video.

What is an RJ11 lead?

An RJ11 lead is a telephone or modem lead with smaller 6P4C plugs than a network lead, used for broadband routers and phone lines. AV:Link RJ11 leads run from 3.0m to 10m in white or black, and some come with a BT431A adaptor for a UK phone socket.
