Alarm Communicators & Diallers

Alarm communicators and diallers link an intruder or fire alarm control panel to an alarm receiving centre (ARC), a smartphone app or nominated phones, over a phone line, 4G or the internet. This page covers digital communicators, speech diallers, 4G and Wi-Fi modules, paging transmitters, and the antennas and cables that extend them, from makers including Scope, DMP, Eaton, AMG Systems and Texecom.

Choosing Alarm Communicators & Diallers

Choose by how the alarm has to signal, for example over the phone line, over 4G, over the network, over two paths at once, or by radio.

Phone line diallers

The Eaton 08400UK-21 is a wired auto-dialling digital communicator that reaches an alarm receiving centre over the phone line (PSTN). The Eaton COM-SD-PSTN plug-on module adds ARC reporting in formats including Contact ID and SIA levels 1, 2 and 3, SMS to up to four contacts, and a speech dialler for voice messages to up to four recipients.

4G cellular communicators

The Pyronix DIGI-4G works on 4G networks with automatic fallback to 2G, and replaces legacy GPRS modules with no reprogramming. The Honeywell A082-00-01 is a 4G/LTE module for the Galaxy Flex control unit that mounts in the existing control panel housing and can replace an existing 2G module.

Network and Wi-Fi communicators

The Texecom CEL-0001 is an Ethernet and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi communicator for a Premier Elite panel with firmware version 5.0, for Texecom Connect App connectivity, ARC reporting and UDL support from Wintex. The Pyronix DIGI-WIFI uses the property's existing internet connection to reach the PyronixCloud, and the Honeywell A083-00-10 gives Galaxy systems alarm signalling over a 10 Base T Ethernet LAN/WAN.

Dual path communicators

The Texecom CEP-0001 is a dual path communicator module with Wi-Fi or LAN and 4G, and the Texecom CEQ-0001 is a dual radio 4G communicator for radio/radio dual path communication. The Eaton COM-DATA-4G-WIFI combines Wi-Fi and the cellular network in one dual path device for Eaton SecureConnect.

Radio paging and radio links

The Scope PT4-10-12V is a programmable UHF paging transmitter that sends messages direct to radio pagers and signals to fixed receivers, and the Scope TLINKAC is a one-way radio link intended to connect remotely located fire or intruder panels.

Antennas and cables

Where the 4G signal at the panel is poor, the Texecom JAQ-0003 external antenna can be located up to 10 metres away from the panel. The DMP 381-12 and 381-25 SMA antenna extension cables support the 263 and 265 units.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a speech dialler and a digital communicator?

A digital communicator reports alarms to an alarm receiving centre (ARC) in formats such as Contact ID or SIA, while a speech dialler sends voice messages to chosen phone numbers. The Eaton COM-SD-PSTN does both over the phone line: its ARC reporting formats include Contact ID and SIA levels 1, 2 and 3, and it sends personalised voice messages to up to four recipients. The Eaton 08400UK-21 is a wired auto-dialling digital communicator.

Can a panel signal over 4G instead of a phone line?

Yes, a 4G alarm communicator signals over the mobile network, which keeps a panel connected as PSTN and GPRS networks are phased out. The Pyronix DIGI-4G is a cellular module for Enforcer and EURO 76 panels that works on 4G with automatic fallback to 2G and replaces legacy GPRS modules with no reprogramming. The Honeywell A082-00-01 is a 4G/LTE module for the Galaxy Flex that also sends SMS messages to 3 cell phone numbers.

What is a dual path communicator?

It is a communicator that signals over two paths. The Texecom CEP-0001 uses Wi-Fi or LAN and 4G, and the Texecom CEQ-0001 uses two 4G radios for category DP2 or DP3. The Eaton COM-DATA-4G-WIFI combines Wi-Fi and the cellular network, and the Eaton COM-DATA-4G-SD automatically switches between LAN and 4G, 3G or 2G mobile technology in the event of a network outage.

Can an alarm panel report over the building's Wi-Fi?

Yes, a Wi-Fi alarm communicator links the panel to the property's existing broadband through its router, for app control and, on some models, ARC reporting. The Pyronix DIGI-WIFI connects to the PyronixCloud for HomeControl2.0 app control, and the Eaton COM-DATA-WIFI lets a control unit reach the Eaton SecureConnect service over a router's Wi-Fi network. The Texecom CEL-0001 is an Ethernet and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi communicator for Premier Elite panels.

What if the 4G signal is poor where the panel is fitted?

Fit an external antenna. The Texecom JAQ-0003 enables SmartCom 4G to be installed where there is poor or no 4G signal: it can be located up to 10 metres away from the panel, it is IP67 rated, and it comes with a right-angle metal bracket for an external wall. The DMP 388-3 is an antenna with a stainless steel mounting bracket for improving cellular reception.
