Apollo Fire Detection & Alarm Equipment

Apollo makes fire detection devices for addressable and conventional fire alarm systems, and this page lists its range: XP95, Discovery and Orbis smoke, heat and multisensor detectors, AlarmSense two-wire devices, flame and beam detectors, detector and sounder bases, open-area sounders and visual alarm devices, interface and switch monitor modules, and accessories such as address cards, call point covers and reset keys.

Choosing Apollo Fire Detection & Alarm Equipment

Start with the fire panel: XP95 and Discovery devices sit on an addressable loop, while AlarmSense devices run on a two-wire conventional circuit.

Detectors

Optical smoke detectors such as the Discovery 58000-600APO use a light-scatter chamber to pick up slow-burning and smouldering fires, with five selectable response modes. Where smoke detection is unsuitable, heat detectors respond to temperature instead: the XP95 55000-400APO alarms at about 55°C, and the 55000-401APO at 90°C suits car parks, loading bays and kitchens. Multisensors such as the 55000-885APO combine photo-electric smoke and thermistor heat sensing to reduce nuisance alarms. For special risks, the 55000-020APO flame detector senses the flickering infra-red of flames, and the SA7100-100APO is an auto-aligning reflective beam detector.

Sounders and visual alarms

The 55000-001APO open-area sounder is loop-powered on an isolating 4" base, with selectable tones and volume settings of 92 dB(A) and 100 dB(A). Sounder VAD bases such as the 45681-705APO combine a sounder and a white-flash visual alarm device with a built-in isolator. Where tones may be masked by background noise, or to alert hearing-impaired people, VADs give a 0.5 Hz white flash: the 55000-744APO for walls (EN 54-23 W-2.4-6) and the 55000-745APO for ceilings (Category C).

Bases, modules and accessories

The XPERT 7 isolating base 45681-284APO automatically isolates short-circuit faults on loops and spurs, and XPERT address cards such as the 45682-800APO set a detector address by removing numbered pips. Modules link other equipment to the loop: the SA4700-102APO supervises volt-free contacts and switches changeover relay outputs, and the 55000-760APO mini switch monitor mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail. The 55000-982APO electromagnetic door holder connects directly to the addressable loop, so the panel can close fire doors in alarmed areas.

Frequently asked questions

Should I fit an Apollo heat detector or a smoke detector?

Fit a smoke detector wherever it will not be set off by normal conditions, and a heat detector where dust, fumes or steam would cause false alarms. The Discovery 58000-600APO suits hotels, offices, care homes and escape routes. The XP95 55000-401APO heat detector alarms at 90 °C and is made for dusty, smoky or high-airflow areas such as car parks, loading bays, kitchens and warehouses.

What does AlarmSense mean in the Apollo range?

AlarmSense is Apollo’s two-wire conventional fire system, where detectors and sounders share a polarity-insensitive, monitored two-wire circuit. The 55000-390APO is an EN54-7 AlarmSense optical smoke detector for bedrooms, escape routes, care homes and HMOs. The 55000-017APO sounder VID synchronises its tone and flash with other AlarmSense devices, and the 55000-835APO relay module drives auxiliary devices such as door releases.

What does an Apollo isolating base do?

An isolating base detects a short circuit on the loop or spur and automatically isolates it, to reduce disruption to the rest of the fire alarm loop. The XPERT 7 45681-284APO is an isolating detector base for XP95 and Discovery detectors. The 55000-001APO open-area sounder is supplied on an isolating 4" base, and the 45681-705APO sounder VAD base has an integral isolator.

How are Apollo call points tested without breaking the glass?

Apollo XP95 manual call points are operated and reset with a plastic reset/test key, so routine tests do not break the glass element. The 44251-176APO is a pack of 10 keys for the new style XP95 reset mechanism. The 44251-189APO transparent hinged cover clips onto a single Apollo call point and must be lifted before use, which reduces accidental or malicious activations.
