Start with the fire system’s protocol, then choose a base or a wall-mounted device, then decide on a visual alarm.

Match the system

Addressable XP95 and Discovery systems take loop-powered devices such as the 45681-277APO sounder base. The SA5500-300APO open-area sounder works natively across XP95, Discovery and CoreProtocol. AlarmSense two-wire conventional systems use their own sounders, such as the polarity-insensitive 55000-018APO. Wireless systems need matching wireless sounders: the RW1300-160APO is for REACH Wireless, and the XPA-WB-14036-APO uses the bi-directional monitored XPander radio platform.

Sounder bases

A sounder base fits beneath a detector, so one point gives detection and an alarm. The 45681-277APO has a built-in short-circuit isolator, two selectable tones and two volume ranges, 55–75 dB(A) and 75–91 dB(A) at 1 m, and can stand alone with a blanking cap. The 45681-702APO Discovery base has 15 tone pairs and a soft start option for hospitals and nursing homes. The 45681-276APO ancillary base sounder is driven from the detector’s remote output, so it needs no separate address.

Open-area and voice sounders

The 55000-001APO has two volume levels, 92 dB(A) and 100 dB(A), selectable Apollo, Slow Whoop and DIN tones and an IP65 rating. The SA5500-300APO sits on an XPERT base with 7 configurable volume levels and 15 tone pairs. Voice sounders such as the 58000-020APO give instructional messages, with four pre-set message pairs.

Visual alarms

Add a VAD in a noisy workshop or machine room, or where deaf or hearing-impaired people may be present. The 45681-707APO combines an EN 54-3 sounder with an EN 54-23 Category O VAD and a built-in isolator. For exposed spots such as car parks, the 55000-017APO pairs a sounder with a red LED indicator in an IP65 enclosure.
