Power Distribution Units (PDUs)

A switched PDU lets individual outlets be turned on and off remotely, usually through a web interface or network management software. It is used to restart frozen servers or network equipment without a site visit and to stagger start-up after a power cut. A basic PDU simply distributes power to its outlets, with no remote control or monitoring.

A horizontal PDU mounts across a standard equipment rack and typically takes one rack unit of space. It suits smaller cabinets and network racks with a modest number of devices. Vertical PDUs mount upright at the rear of the cabinet, take no rack units and often carry more outlets for dense server racks.
