Network Audio & IP Systems

Network audio carries paging, music and announcements over an IP network. Most of this page is Penton equipment: PoE speakers and horns, an IP speaker module, audio decoders and encoders, paging consoles and a telephone gateway. Alongside it are items such as a TOA IP horn speaker, a Hikvision network ceiling speaker, an Axis network audio bridge and a CIE Group SIP video phone with a 7" touch screen.

Decide where the sound must reach, then how the devices will be powered and how announcements will start.

Speakers and horns

The Penton APH30-IP is a weatherproof horn speaker for indoor and outdoor use, powered by PoE, PoE+ or an external 24VDC supply, with three control inputs, one contact output and USB storage for music and messages. The TOA IP-A1SC15 is a 15 W IP horn on PoE or PoE+, with 112 dB sensitivity at 1 W, 1 m and a 124 dB maximum SPL. Among the smaller speakers, the Penton PBC6-IP is a 6W cabinet speaker with 200MB internal storage and microSD support, and the Hikvision DS-QAZ1206G1-BE is a 6 W network ceiling speaker with alarm input and audio linkage.

Bringing existing speakers onto the network

The Penton IPBX-2C20 makes standard low impedance speakers IP addressable, with two 20W channels, PoE and an RJ45 interface, and multiple low impedance speakers can be connected to one module. The Axis 02370-001, the AXIS C8110 network audio bridge, combines analogue and network audio and lets an IP telephony system make callouts on analogue speakers.

Audio gateways, decoders and paging

The TERRA-AMP is an amplified IP audio gateway for voice paging, intercom and music streaming, with one balanced mic/line input and two 15W balanced outputs. The TERRA-EX/G2 decodes SIP, unicast and multicast streams to two balanced line outputs, with a scheduler, SD and USB expansion and a 24 VDC backup option. The TERRA-IEX is a full duplex encoder and decoder with two balanced mic/line inputs and two balanced line outputs. For live announcements, the TERRA-K is a gooseneck microphone console with a built-in 2.5W loudspeaker, and the PPM-IT5 is a paging console with a 5" colour touch screen. The TERRA-FXO connects two telephone lines to a TERRACOM paging system.

How is network audio equipment powered?

Most devices on this page take Power over Ethernet (PoE). The APH30-IP and TERRA-K can also run from 24 VDC, the TOA IP-A1SC15 takes PoE or PoE+, and the PBC6-IP works with PoE+ and PoE. The TERRA-AMP draws 5.7W on PoE.

Can existing analogue speakers join an IP audio system?

Yes, through an interface between the network and the speakers. The Penton IPBX-2C20 makes standard low impedance speakers IP addressable through two 20W channels, and several low impedance speakers can connect to one module. The Axis C8110 network audio bridge brings zone management, content scheduling and SIP callouts to existing analogue systems.

Can a phone system make announcements over these speakers?

Yes, several devices here link telephony to paging. The TERRA-FXO connects two telephone lines to a TERRACOM paging system and can bring in analogue, digital and mobile phones, while the Axis C8110 lets an IP telephony system make callouts on analogue speakers. The TOA IP-A1SC15 horn also supports SIP among its network protocols.

What is network audio?

Network audio carries paging, music streaming and intercom over a LAN or WAN, as the Penton IPBX-2C20 speaker module does. The Penton TERRA-EX/G2 decodes SIP, unicast and multicast network audio streams to balanced analogue line outputs for paging, background music and scheduled announcements. For existing analogue systems, the Axis 02370-001 network audio bridge connects and combines analogue and digital audio systems.

What do I use to make live announcements?

Use a paging microphone console. The Penton TERRA-K has a gooseneck microphone and a built-in 2.5W loudspeaker for paging and intercom, and runs on PoE or a 24 VDC supply. The PPM-IT5 is a paging console with a 5" colour touch screen that handles paging and intercom with TERRACOM devices.
