Disabled Refuge & Toilet Alarms

A disabled toilet alarm lets a person in an accessible WC pull a cord to call for help, with a light and sounder outside the door showing where the call is. Decide first whether you are equipping an accessible toilet or a refuge area: a toilet alarm signals for help, while a refuge system gives two-way speech with staff.

Toilet alarm kits

The Beacon UDTAKIT is a three-part kit of indication, pull cord and reset modules with battery backup that meets Part M and BS8300; it comes in white, grey (UDTAKITG) and stainless steel (UDTAKITSS). The C-TEC NC951 is a single-zone 12 V kit whose pull cord unit mounts on the ceiling or wall, with a Call Accept function for staff, and the NC951/SS is a brushed stainless steel kit. For wireless installation, the Cranford Controls 402-003 and Hoyles A600WKITB run on batteries.

Replacement modules and cords

Beacon UDTA modules are sold separately too, such as the UDTALBM light and buzzer module, the UDTAPCM pull cord module with a red 3m cord and anti-ligature mechanism, and the UDTAREM reset module. The UDTASPC replacement pull cord comes with a red cord, two handles and a magnetic coupler. For C-TEC ceiling pull units, the C-TEC NCP-12 and Signet NCP-13 are 3m anti-bacterial, wipe-clean cords.

Refuge and fire telephone systems

Beacon Type B refuge outstations such as the BTB are hands-free with full duplex speech, and Type A fire telephones such as the BTAS use a handset. The B1M4 and B1M8 master stations are compliant to BS5839-9:2021 with a 1.5A EN54-4:A2 PSU, the BMNET adds a 4.3" touchscreen, and the C-TEC SigTEL ECU-8 is an 8-line master controller that expands to 16 lines.

For C-TEC ceiling pull units, the NCP-12 and the Signet NCP-13 are 3m anti-bacterial, wipe-clean cords. Separately, the Hoyles S1600-R is a non-latching ceiling pull with a 2.5m cord and a reassurance LED.

What is a disabled refuge system?

It is an emergency voice communication system that lets a person waiting at a refuge point speak to staff at a master station in an emergency. Beacon Type B outstations such as the BTB and the IP66 BTB66 are hands-free with full duplex speech, and they connect to master stations such as the B1M8, which is compliant to BS5839-9:2021.

What is the difference between Type A and Type B outstations?

A Type A outstation is a fire telephone with a handset, such as the Beacon BTAS, BTAR or BTA66, while a Type B outstation such as the Beacon BTB is hands-free, with full duplex speech and a call button. They connect back to a master station, and the BTA66 and BTB66 are the IP66-cased versions of the two types.

What is an assist call system?

Beacon Assist Call is a modular assistance alarm for WCs and bedrooms: the B1AKIT is an assistance alarm WC system and the BABEDKIT a bedroom zone kit, and the B1A4ZM is a 4 zone controller powered by the B1A4ZMPS. Parts include the B1APCM pull cord module with a 2.8m cord, the B1AM over-door plate with a high volume sounder and blue indicator, and IP66 call and cancel modules.
