Choosing CCTV Camera Lenses
Choose by the camera's lens mount and sensor size first, then by how the iris is controlled, the focal length and whether the lens is IR corrected.
CS-mount varifocal lenses
The Hikvision HV3816P-8MPIR is a compact CS-mount lens whose vari-focal design allows for flexible viewing angles. The Hanwha E3Z3915CS-MPWIR is an 8MP 3.9-10.0mm CS-Mount lens, the TAMRON-M118VG1250IR covers 12 to 50 mm, and the Axis 03465-001 offers an extra-long reach of up to 100 mm for outdoor fixed box cameras. Match the sensor size too: the 1/2.8" Hanwha SLA-M2890DN should never be used on a camera whose capture element is larger than the lens specification.
Manual, DC-iris or P-iris
The Hanwha A6Z8516CS-MP and E3Z3915CS-MPWIR have a manual iris. The Axis 5800-791 is a DC-iris lens with an automatically adjustable iris opening, recommended in situations with varying light levels. The Axis 02448-001 has P-iris capability, which addresses the imperfections of an auto-iris lens and improves contrast, clarity, resolution and depth of field.
Remote zoom and i-CS lenses
The Axis 01727-001, 02367-001, 02638-001 and 5901-101 are i-CS lenses with three motors, which enable automatic and remote zoom, focus and iris opening. The 01727-001 is a 9-50 mm F1.5 8 MP telephoto lens whose long reach captures objects that are far away. The Hikvision 7R4DE-V21 motorized zoom lens facilitates remote control operation.
IR-corrected lenses
With the IR-corrected Axis 02638-001, you don't need to adjust the camera's focus when you shift between day and night mode using the IR-cut filter. The Hanwha AG4Z2812FCS-MPIR-32 and TG3Z0312FCS-MPIR-32 are IR corrected auto iris lenses with a 31cm lens lead.
Fixed lenses and lens modules
The Axis 5506-011 is the default lens for the AXIS P3904-R MkII and P3905-R MkII. The Hanwha SLA-2M2400P, SLA-2M6000P and SLA-5M3700P are exchangeable lens modules for the PNM-9320VQP, and the SLA-F2480A and SLA-F4780A are lens modules with an 8m cable for the PNM-C20000QB.

Frequently asked questions
What is a CS-mount lens?
It is a lens that fits a camera's CS lens mount, in varifocal versions with manual, DC-iris or P-iris control and motorised i-CS types. The Axis 01469-001 is a Tamron 8-50mm CS mount lens with P-Iris, and the Hanwha A4Z2812CS-MPIR is a 2.8-10.0mm manual iris CS-Mount lens. The Hanwha TAMRON-M118VG1250IR is a 12-50mm CS-mount lens with DC auto iris.
What does a P-iris lens do?
It controls the iris opening precisely, which addresses the weaknesses of an auto-iris lens and improves contrast, clarity, resolution and depth of field. The Axis 02448-001 is a 4-10mm P-iris lens, and the Hikvision HV3816P-8MPIR is a compact CS-mount lens with a mega-pixel P-Iris for precise exposure control. The Axis 01469-001 is made for cameras that support P-Iris technology.
Why choose an IR-corrected lens?
Choose one so the focus does not need adjusting when the camera switches between day and night mode with its IR-cut filter. The Axis 02367-001 i-CS lens and the 5800-791 DC-iris lens are IR-corrected, and the Axis 02448-001 handles light as low as 0.02 lux for colour and 0.004 lux for black and white. The Hanwha A4Z2812CS-MPIR is IR corrected for night vision.
When is a DC-iris lens the right choice?
Choose a DC-iris lens where light levels vary, because it adjusts its iris opening automatically, unlike a lens with a manually adjusted iris. The Axis 5800-791 is a 12.5-50mm DC-iris telephoto lens for capturing objects far away. The Hanwha AG6Z8516FCS-MP-32 is an 8.5-50mm auto iris lens with DC Drive and a 31cm lens lead, and the TAMRON-M118VG1250IR is a 12-50mm lens with DC auto iris.
How wide does a fixed lens see?
It depends on the focal length: the shorter the focal length, the wider the horizontal field of view. The Axis 03277-001 2.8mm M12 lens gives a 120° horizontal field of view, and the 5506-011 3.6 mm lens gives 93°. The Hanwha SLA-F2480A 2.45mm lens module covers 122° horizontally and 90° vertically, while the 4.72mm SLA-F4780A has a 70° horizontal field of view.
