Choosing Server Racks & Cabinets
Measure the equipment first: its height in rack units (U), its depth and its weight decide the cabinet.
Wall-mounted cabinets
Wall cabinets keep a small network off the floor. The Hikvision DS-XS6404-S/B is a 4U cabinet of 600 × 450 × 281 mm with a lockable 4 mm tempered glass door and a 40 kg static load, and the DS-XS6412-S/B gives 12U for switches, patch panels, CCTV recorders and small UPS units. The All-Rack CAB12WB450BLK is 12U and 450mm deep, built from 1.2mm mild steel with a toughened glass front door. The Connectix RR-W1-6-G has a lockable glass front door and removable, lockable side panels.
Floor-standing cabinets
Floor cabinets hold larger systems. The All-Rack CAB276X6 is a 27U, 600×600mm server cabinet with lockable, removable doors and adjustable 19” mounting profiles, and the CAB186X6 is an 18U data cabinet whose front and rear doors both lock. Connectix RackyRax cabinets include 42U models: the RR-F1-42-P data cabinet has a lockable door and cable access in the base, and the RR-F5-42-M server cabinet has perforated front and rear doors.
Fitting out
Shelves carry equipment that is not rack-mountable. The All-Rack SHELF2U400BLK is a 2U cantilever shelf 400mm deep, and the SHELF550800 is a fixed shelf 550mm deep for 800mm floor cabinets with a 90kg load capacity. For cooling, the FANR2600 is a 2-way roof mount fan tray for 600mm deep cabinets. The MANBAR1U4R cable bar has four 65mm rings, and the 1UBSP brush strip panel lets cables through while keeping dust out.
Lockable recorder boxes
Where a single recorder needs protecting, the Haydon HAY-LDVR1-F is a lockable DVR enclosure of powder-coated steel with an anti-drill radial lock and two 12v fans that expel hot air.

Frequently asked questions
What does 12U mean on a rack cabinet?
It is the usable height inside the cabinet, counted in rack units (U) for 19" equipment. The DS-XS6412-S/B gives 12U of 19" rack space for switches, patch panels and recorders, while a 1U item such as the MANBAR1U4R cable bar takes one unit. Add up the units your devices take and leave spare space for later additions.
Should I choose a wall-mounted or floor-standing cabinet?
Choose wall-mounted for a small network or CCTV system and floor-standing for larger or heavier equipment. Wall cabinets such as the DS-XS6404-S/B and CAB12WB450BLK save floor space, while floor cabinets such as the 27U CAB276X6 and the 42U Connectix RR-F1-42-P give far more height, with lockable doors, and the RR-F1-42-P has cable access in the base.
How deep should a network cabinet be?
Deep enough for your deepest device plus the cables behind it. Wall cabinets here include 450mm deep models such as the CAB9WB450BLK and 600mm ones such as the CAB9WB600BLK, and the CAB186X6 floor cabinet is 600×600 mm. Shelves are sized to the cabinet as well: the SHELF550800 suits 800mm deep floor cabinets.
How do I keep equipment in a cabinet cool?
Fit a fan tray or fan module and keep the air paths clear. The All-Rack FANR2600 is a 2-way roof mount fan tray for 600mm deep cabinets, and the Hikvision DS-XSFS08-E is a 4-fan module for its E-series floor cabinets. Brush strip panels such as the 1UBSP let cables pass through while keeping dust out.
How do I fit equipment that is not rack-mountable?
Stand it on a rack shelf. The All-Rack SHELF2U400BLK is a 2U front-fixing cantilever shelf 400mm deep, and the Hikvision DS-XSPB04-S/B is a 1U fixed tray with a 20 kg static load for Hikvision 600 mm cabinets. Secure the device to the shelf so it cannot move when the cabinet is opened or moved.
