Fingerprint Readers & Locks

Fingerprint readers and locks use a fingerprint in place of, or alongside, a key, card or PIN. This page has the Hikvision DS-K1F820-F USB fingerprint recorder for enrolling users, the Hikvision DS-K1T671TMFW face and fingerprint recognition terminal, the Honeywell SIGMAEXM fingerprint recognition terminal for Pro-Watch systems, and the DL2 smart door lock, which opens by fingerprint, PIN, app or key.

Choosing Fingerprint Readers & Locks

Decide whether you are enrolling fingerprints at a computer, controlling a door or attendance point with a terminal, or replacing a front door lock.

Enrolling fingerprints

The DS-K1F820-F fingerprint recorder supports living fingerprint registration and identification. It connects to a computer over plug-and-play USB 2.0 with no driver, uploads and downloads fingerprint data and images to the controller or module, and checks the completeness of registered fingerprint templates. Its optical sensor uses scratch-resistant material, and it works with Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 10.

Recognition terminals

The DS-K1T671TMFW combines face and fingerprint recognition with a 7" LCD touch screen, a 2MP wide-angle lens and a built-in M1 card reading module. The DS-K1T671TMFW holds up to 50,000 faces, 5,000 fingerprints and 50,000 cards, recognises faces without a mask from 0.3m to 3m in under 0.2 seconds, supports TCP/IP and Wi-Fi and is rated IP65. A forced mask-wearing alert gives a voice reminder and fails authentication when a face has no mask. The SIGMAEXM enrols biometric templates within Honeywell's Pro-Watch, so there are no separate databases or software to manage, and it supports multi-factor authentication including PIN+BIO and Card+PIN+BIO.

Smart door lock

The DL2 replaces keys on a front door and unlocks eight ways: fingerprint, PIN code, app, RFID card, voice assistant, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or a mechanical backup key. It auto-locks when you leave, has a heavy-duty aluminium body and is weather-resistant, and its app shows who unlocked the door and when.

Frequently asked questions

What is a fingerprint door lock?

A fingerprint door lock unlocks when it recognises an enrolled fingerprint, so there is no key to lose. Smart models also accept a PIN or a phone app, and some connect over Wi-Fi so you can check the lock remotely. The range here includes a smart door lock with fingerprint, PIN and phone access.

Can a fingerprint lock be fitted to a front door?

Yes, fingerprint locks are made for front doors, but check that the lock suits your door type, thickness and existing lock. Make sure it has a backup way in if its battery runs flat. A lock on an outside door also needs to cope with the weather.

Are fingerprint door locks secure?

Yes, they can be, but security depends as much on the lock body, the door and the fitting as on the fingerprint reader itself. Look for a reader that resists fake fingerprints, protected storage of the enrolled prints and a backup way in, such as a PIN or a key.
