PoE Injectors & Splitters

PoE injectors and splitters here add Power over Ethernet to a link or take it off again. They include single-port injectors that power one device from a non-PoE switch, multi-port industrial injectors, splitters that give a non-PoE device DC power, active-to-passive converters, two-over-one multiplexers and battery-powered injectors for installers. Examples include the TRENDnet TPE-115GI PoE+ injector, the Veracity VOR-OS-90 at 90 W and the Dahua DH-TAS100 splitter.

Choosing PoE Injectors & Splitters

Match the injector to the power class the device needs and to the network speed, then choose how and where it will be mounted.

Power class

The TRENDnet TPE-219GI shows the three classes: it supplies PoE (15.4W), PoE+ (30W) or PoE++ (90W). A PoE+ injector such as the Veracity VOR-OS-30-UK supplies up to 30 W for IP cameras and access points. Higher-power cameras need more: the Verint PS60POE gives 60W and is recommended for outdoor PTZ cameras, and the Dahua DH-TAM01GT01GT-75 is a 75W midspan for Hi-PoE speed domes.

Network speed

Gigabit injectors such as the TRENDnet TPE-115GI suit gigabit links, and faster ports need a matching injector: the TPE-219GI passes 2.5G, and the TPE-318GI is 10GBASE-T compliant over CAT6a or better cabling. Devices that take 24V passive PoE need their own injector, such as the Ubiquiti POE-24-12W-G for Ubiquiti 24V devices or the Ruijie RP028-2400500 for Reyee bridges.

Industrial and multi-port

The AMG Systems AMG150-1GBT-P90 has a compact DIN rail or wall mount housing for a wide industrial operating temperature range. The AMG150-1GBT-P90-LV boosts a 9-36VDC or 20-60VDC input to a regulated 53VDC, and the AMG155-1GBT-P90 has an integrated mains power supply. The AMG150-4GBT-4GAT-P480 is an 8 port injector rated −40°C to +75°C.

Splitters and multiplexers

A splitter takes PoE in and gives a non-PoE device separate data and DC power. The Dahua DH-TAS100 gives 12VDC from an IEEE802.3af source, and the TRENDnet TI-SG704 splits a 10G 90W PoE++ signal with an adjustable output for 12V, 16V, 24V or 48V devices. To run two IP cameras over one Cat5/6 cable, use a multiplexer such as the Haydon HAY-POE-MULTI.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use a PoE injector instead of a PoE switch?

Use an injector to power one device from a switch that has no PoE, and a PoE switch when several devices need power. The TRENDnet TPE-315GI, for example, converts a non-PoE port to a PoE+ port, and the TPE-319GI connects to a non-PoE switch and sends data and power to a device up to 100 meters away over cat6a or better cabling.

What does a PoE splitter do?

It separates PoE into data and DC power for a device that has no PoE input. The Dahua DH-TAS100 gives 12VDC from an IEEE802.3af supply, and the TRENDnet TI-SG704 splits a 90W PoE++ signal into power and data, with an adjustable output for 12V, 16V, 24V or 48V devices and wall or DIN-Rail mounting options.

Do Ubiquiti and Reyee devices need a passive PoE injector?

Some do: a device that takes 24V passive PoE needs a passive injector rather than an 802.3af/at one. The Ubiquiti POE-24-12W-G is made for Ubiquiti 24V PoE devices, and the Ruijie RP028-2400500 gives 24 V DC at 0.5 A for Reyee bridges such as the RG-EST310 V2. The AMG9CLE-1PO-1PA converts standard PoE to 24 V DC passive PoE.

Which injector do I need for a PTZ camera?

Use a high-power injector sized to the camera. The Verint PS60POE is a 60W injector recommended for outdoor PTZ cameras, the Dahua DH-TAM01GT01GT-75 supplies 75W for Hi-PoE speed domes, and the Veracity VOR-OS-90 supplies up to 90 W under 802.3bt for high-power CCTV and PTZ cameras.

How can I power a camera during installation without mains?

Use a battery-powered PoE injector. The Veracity POINTSOURCE Plus VAD-PSP supplies 802.3af/at PoE of up to 30 W from a removable 12 V sealed lead-acid battery module, with an uplink port for a laptop. The POINTSOURCE Wireless VAD-PSW adds a built-in wireless access point, so a phone or tablet can view live video for focusing.

Is there a PoE injector for a DIN rail or roadside cabinet?

Yes, industrial injectors such as the Hanwha Vision SNI-1PI are DIN rail mountable. The SNI-1PI is compact enough for camera poles and roadside cabinets, and the Comnet CN1IPSBT-DC is an environmentally hardened 802.3bt Type 4 injector that runs from 52 to 56 VDC. The AMG150-1GAT-P30 comes in a DIN rail or wall mount housing.
