100V Audio Amplifiers

A 100V line amplifier can feed a run of transformer speakers from one output, so announcements and background music reach several areas of a shop, school or office. This collection has mixer-amplifiers with microphone and music inputs, such as the TOA A-2060D and Adastra RM4460, slave and multi-channel power amplifiers such as the Adastra RS Series and CIE Group DPA300Q, and an IP network PA amplifier from Hikvision.

Choosing 100V Audio Amplifiers

Decide whether you need a mixer-amplifier with its own inputs or a power amplifier fed from a mixer, then add up the speaker tappings against the amplifier's rated output.

Mixer-amplifiers

The TOA A-2060D, A-2120D and A-2240D give 60W, 120W and 240W with three balanced microphone inputs and two aux inputs, and on the A-2120D MIC 1 carries the paging priority. The Adastra 953.244UK adds Bluetooth, USB/SD and FM playback, and the Clever Acoustics CRAM05 has a telephone input alongside three microphone and two aux inputs.

Zoned and multi-channel amplifiers

The Adastra RM4460 953.446UK is a 1U mixer-amp with four 60W amplifiers, and any of its four inputs can be routed to any of its four zones. The Adastra RMS Series comes as the 953.152UK with 5 x 60W channels or the 953.154UK with 2 x 120W. The 953.152UK and 953.154UK have a separate line input per channel, a paging microphone input and outputs for 100V or 4-16 Ohm speakers.

Slave and power amplifiers

The Adastra US Series 953.196UK and 953.199UK and the RS Series 953.201UK have a 100V input, so they can connect to an existing 100V speaker line to extend it. For larger systems the CIE Group DPA300Q gives 4 x 300W in 2U with a 100v/70v selector. The Bose Professional 876599-0100 is a 4-channel 1200W amplifier with built-in Dante that can drive low-impedance or 70/100V loads.

Emergency muting and network PA

Many Adastra amplifiers here, such as the 953.196UK and 953.201UK, have 24V contacts that let an alarm panel mute the output. The Hikvision DS-QAE1A80G1-VB is an 80W two-zone IP PA amplifier with scheduled broadcasts and text-to-speech.

Do I need a mixer-amplifier or a slave amplifier?

Choose a mixer-amplifier when the system starts from microphones and music players, and a slave amplifier when you already have a mixer or need more power on an existing line. The TOA A-2120D mixes three microphones and two aux inputs into 120W, while the Adastra RS Series 953.201UK takes line level audio from a mixer, cascades onto further RS slaves and can connect to an existing 100V speaker feed.

Can a microphone announcement override the background music?

Yes, several amplifiers here give a microphone priority over music. On the TOA A-2120D the MIC-1 priority function attenuates the other inputs by 0–30 dB, the Adastra RMS Series 953.152UK has a paging microphone input with vox override, and the Clever Acoustics CRAM05 gives Mic 1 adjustable VOX priority over the other inputs.

Which amplifier can send different audio to different zones?

The Adastra RM4460 953.446UK, a zoning mixer-amp with four 60W amplifiers where any of the four inputs can go to any of the four zones, each with its own output level control. The Adastra 953.244UK controls four zones with individual volume attenuators, and the Hikvision DS-QAE0A60G1-VB and DS-QAE1A80G1-VB each have two zones.

Can the amplifier be muted by the fire alarm?

Yes, several Adastra models have 24V contacts for this: the RMS Series 953.152UK and 953.154UK have a 24V mute terminal for emergency evacuation override, and the US Series 953.196UK and 953.199UK have 24V fire alarm mute contacts. The Adastra 953.244UK offers an emergency evacuation connection through fire alarm panel contacts.

Is there a network PA amplifier?

Yes, the Hikvision DS-QAE1A80G1-VB is an 80W two-zone IP public-address amplifier with live and scheduled broadcasts, text-to-speech and playback from USB, Bluetooth, microphone and RCA sources. It is controlled over the network with HikCentral, EZVIZ, ISAPI or ISUP, and the DS-QAE1A80G1-VB runs from 24 VDC and supports cascading up to three amplifiers.
