Rocker Switch Covers

A rocker switch cover replaces the rocker on a grid switch, either to change its finish or to mark what the switch controls, such as a boiler, oven or fridge. Every cover here is made by Knightsbridge, in two families: GD covers for grid switches, in metal-effect finishes and white, and laser printed CU covers for the Curved Edge range, such as the white thermoset resin CUHOB. Markings include BOILER, FAN BOOST, COOKER HOOD, WARMING DRAWER and WINE COOLER.

GD covers for grid switches

GD covers are replaceable rockers for grid switches. The GDBLANKPC in polished chrome measures 33mm high, 16mm wide and 6.8mm deep and is made of ABS and steel, and the brushed chrome GDBLANKBC is sold as a direct replacement for a worn rocker cover. White versions such as the GDBOILU and GDFANU have a white UREA finish on ABS. The BOILER marking, for example, comes as the GDBOILAB in antique brass and the GDBOILBC in brushed chrome.

CU covers for Curved Edge switches

CU covers such as the CUHOB and CUWINE are laser printed rockers in white thermoset resin, made to coordinate with the Knightsbridge Curved Edge Switches and Sockets range, and the CUWARM and CUWASTE are for use with the Curved Grid System only. The CUBOOST and CUFRIDGE measure 15.9mm x 30.6mm. The CUFAN and CUFREEZER have anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011.

How do I change the rocker on a grid switch?

Remove the existing rocker and fit the new cover in its place. For covers such as the GDBOOSTU and the CUBOIL, take off the rocker that is there and replace it with the one carrying the finish or marking you need.

What is a curved edge rocker cover?

A curved edge rocker cover is a replaceable rocker made to coordinate with Curved Edge switches, laser printed with the appliance it controls. Covers such as the CUHOB are white thermoset resin rockers marked HOB, and others are marked DISHWASHER (CUDISH) or WASHING MACHINE (CUWASH). Several, such as the CUWARM and CUWASH, are for use with the Curved Grid System only.

What finishes do the grid switch covers come in?

GD finishes include antique brass, anthracite, brushed brass, brushed chrome, black nickel, matt black, matt white, polished chrome, smoked bronze and white. The HOB marking, for instance, comes as the GDHOBAB in antique brass, the GDHOBAT in anthracite, the GDHOBPC in polished chrome and the GDHOBU in white, so a marked rocker can match the plate around it.

Which appliance markings can I get on a rocker?

Markings include BOILER, FAN, FAN BOOST, COFFEE MACHINE, COOKER HOOD, DISHWASHER, TUMBLE DRYER, FRIDGE, FREEZER, FRIDGE FREEZER, HOB, MICROWAVE, OVEN, WARMING DRAWER, WASHING MACHINE, WASTE DISPOSAL and WINE COOLER. Examples are the GDWASTEU marked WASTE DISPOSAL, the GDMICROU marked MICROWAVE and the GDFRIDBC marked FRIDGE/FREEZER.

Why fit a marked cover on an appliance switch?

It shows at a glance which switch serves which appliance, which helps when one needs isolating. The GDCOOKU is marked COOKER HOOD for identifying that appliance switch, and the GDWASHBC is pre-printed to signify the appliance it controls. In a kitchen with a row of grid switches, markings such as OVEN (GDOVENU) and HOB (GDHOBU) keep them apart.

What are the rocker covers made of?

They are ABS, ABS and steel, or thermoset resin, depending on the cover. The GDBLANKBB in brushed brass is ABS and steel, the white GDWASHU is ABS with a white UREA finish, and the CUHOB is durable thermoset resin. The CUFAN and CUFREEZER add anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011.
