Emergency Downlights
Emergency downlights are compact LED fittings with their own battery that give light when the mains supply fails. This page holds Duceri models from ESP with lithium batteries: non-maintained recessed downlights and a surface model that can run maintained (always on), with self-test on some. Lens options include open and corridor lenses, and the D2411WH gives a 3 hour battery duration from a LiFePO4 battery.

Choosing Emergency Downlights
An emergency downlight is a downlight with its own battery that gives emergency lighting; the Duceri D2411WH, for example, is a recessed emergency downlight with a high power 5W LED and a 3 hour battery duration. Pick the operation mode first, then the lens, the mounting and whether the fitting should test itself.
Operation mode
The D2411WH, D2413WH and D6402WH run non-maintained. The D5403WH supports maintained or non-maintained operation, so it can also give light from the mains supply.
Lenses and light output
A corridor lens gives the D2411WH an emergency luminous flux of 214 lm, and the open lens on the D2413WH gives 263 lm. The D5403WH comes with an open and a corridor lens, rated 118 lm and 110 lm in emergency, while the D6402WH has an open lens rated 138 lm.
Self test, batteries and fixing
The D5403WH and D6402WH have a self test facility. The D2411WH and D2413WH use a 3.2V 6000mAh LiFePO4 battery, and the D5403WH and D6402WH a 3.2V 1500mAh LiFePO4 battery. The D2411WH and D2413WH need an emergency module cutout of Ø48 mm and the D6402WH one of Ø35 mm, while the D5403WH mounts on a ceiling or wall, and a flushing kit is an accessory for it. Models such as the D2413WH and D5403WH carry BS EN 60598-2-22.

Frequently asked questions
Which is better, a recessed or a surface emergency downlight?
Choose a recessed emergency downlight where there is a ceiling void to fit it into, and a surface model where the ceiling is solid or the void is too shallow. Either type gives emergency light when the mains fails. Check the cutout size for a recessed model and the IP rating where moisture is present. The range here includes recessed models and a surface model.
What is an emergency downlight?
An emergency downlight is a ceiling downlight, usually with its own battery, that lights an escape route or open area when the mains supply fails. A non-maintained type lights up when the mains fails, while a maintained type also works as normal lighting. Look for the rated emergency duration, often 3 hours, and a self-test option. The range here includes recessed models and a surface model, some with self-test.
