Floodlights & Security Lights

A security light is an outdoor floodlight used to deter intruders, usually switched on by a PIR sensor when movement is detected. This range centres on ESP NH LED security lights from 10W to 50W, in black and white, with sensor models at 10W, 20W and 30W, alongside GJD and Knightsbridge floodlights up to 200W and a LYYT battery-powered twin light for places with no mains supply.

Choosing Floodlights & Security Lights

Security lights light up the outside of homes and businesses: ESP NH security lights come with or without a built-in sensor, alongside Knightsbridge floodlights, Texecom light blades, GJD floodlights and an LYYT twin floodlight. Pick a security light by whether it needs its own sensor, how much area it has to light, and how it will be powered.

With or without a sensor

ESP NH lights with a built-in sensor are the NH10BS-CL in black, the NH20BS-CL and NH30BS-CL in black and the NH20WS-CL and NH30WS-CL in white; the NH20 and NH30 also come without a sensor in both colours, the NH10W-CL is white without a sensor, and the NH50B-CL and NH50W-CL have no sensor version. A sensor model lights a path or door on movement, while a non-sensor model can be run from a switch, timer or external detector.

ESP NH lights run from 10W to 50W, for doors, drives and yards. For larger areas the GJD VCS-100 and VCS-200 give 100W and 200W from Osram LEDs, and the Knightsbridge FLPA200 gives 20,000 lumens.

No mains nearby

The LYYT battery-powered twin floodlight runs from 6×AA batteries with a motion sensor, rated IP44 with a 120° sensor angle, for sheds and gates away from the mains.

Adjustable twin heads

The Knightsbridge FLTB and FLTPB have two adjustable 9W heads, so one fitting can cover a door and a path at once. On the FLTPB the PIR lights the heads for 90 seconds after it detects movement, and a manual override keeps them on.

What is the difference between a security light and a floodlight?

A security light is a floodlight used for deterrence, normally with a PIR sensor so it comes on when someone approaches. The ESP NH range shows the difference directly: the NH30BS-CL is a 30W black light with a sensor and the NH30B-CL a 30W black light without one, so the second is run from a switch, timer or external detector.

How far does a PIR security light detect movement?

The Knightsbridge FLTPB detects movement at a maximum of 8 metres, with a 120° beam angle, and lights for 90 seconds after it detects movement. The LYYT battery twin floodlight has a 120° sensor angle with adjustable sensitivity and delay time.

What wattage security light do I need?

A 10W or 20W light suits a front door or porch, and a 30W or 50W light a driveway or yard; the ESP NH range runs from 10W to 50W. For car parks and large sites the GJD VCS-200 and Knightsbridge FLPA200 give 200W, the FLPA200 at 20,000 lumens.

Can I get a security light that does not need mains wiring?

Yes. The LYYT 154.850UK twin floodlight runs on 6×AA batteries, which are not supplied, with a motion sensor and 400 lumens from twin 3W COB LEDs. It is rated IP44 and fixes with a bracket, so it suits sheds, gates and side passages.

Are these security lights suitable for outdoor use?

They are made for outdoor fixing. The GJD VCS floodlights, Knightsbridge FLPA200 and Knightsbridge twin spot floodlights are rated IP65 against dust and water jets, and the LYYT battery floodlight IP44. Check the rating against the position it will be fitted in.

Can I add a separate sensor to a floodlight?

Yes, where the floodlight allows it. The Knightsbridge FLPA200 is compatible with LED-friendly external sensors, and the ESP NH non-sensor models can be run from a switch or separate detector, while the sensor versions of the same lights have one built in.

What is the ESP NH security light range?
