Commercial Lighting

Commercial lighting covers the tough fittings used in commercial and industrial buildings, indoors and out, including schools, care settings and sites that need security lighting. This Knightsbridge range is led by LED bulkheads, including 5W amenity lights and BT EVO, BT and Sherpa models with selectable colour temperature, and adds Torlan non-corrosive fittings, high lumen battens, emergency fittings and conversion kits, Tenax anti-vandal casings and high bay lens accessories.

Choosing Commercial Lighting

Choose the fitting type first, then the protection it needs and how it will be switched.

Bulkheads

The BT EVO BTEV, BTEVCF and BTEVP switch between 9W, 14W and 18W and three colour temperatures, and are rated IP65 and IK10; the BTEV gives 930lm at 9W and 1,750lm at 18W at 4000K. The BT9ACT, BT14ACT and BT20ACT families are IP65 bulkheads set to 3000K, 4000K or 5700K, with trim, DALI, emergency and sensor versions. Most Sherpa bulkheads, round SHE1 and eyelid SHE2, have a die-cast aluminium body and an anti-vandal polycarbonate diffuser. The AMLED amenity bulkheads are 5W IP54 fittings for low-level and security lighting.

Non-corrosive fittings and battens

Torlan TORCW fittings come in 2ft to 6ft lengths with selectable wattage and colour temperature and IP65 and IK08 ratings; the 6ft TORCW6 gives 4,750lm at 30W or 8,660lm at 60W and has stainless steel diffuser clips. The TRLEDA151 runs on 110V to 240V AC and the TRLEDA221 on 110V. The BATS5H and BATS6H high lumen battens give 5925lm and 6475lm, and the BATS6H and the BATSCDA6, a 6ft 48W DALI batten, are rated IP20 for dry interiors.

Emergency and accessories

Most emergency versions carry EM in the code, such as the BT14ACTEM, SHE1BEM and TRLED26EM. The EMKIT2L converts LED fittings of 3 to 50W, and the MODEMKIT converts Knightsbridge modular luminaires. The Tenax Pro casings are IP66 and IK10 with stainless steel screws, and take a TENAX LED gear tray bought separately.

Frequently asked questions

What is a commercial lighting system?

A commercial lighting system is the set of fittings, controls and emergency lights that illuminates a workplace such as a shop, warehouse, car park or office. It usually combines bulkheads, battens or panels with sensors or DALI control, and some fittings have emergency backup. The range here includes Knightsbridge bulkheads, battens, non-corrosive fittings and emergency lights.

What LED lighting suits industrial use?

Industrial sites usually need robust LED fittings with good dust and water protection, such as IP65 non-corrosive battens for damp or dirty areas and high lumen battens for dry workshops. Look for an IK rating where fittings could be knocked, and use 110V fittings on construction sites. The range here includes non-corrosive fittings, high lumen battens and high bay lens accessories.

Why switch to commercial LED lighting?

Switching to commercial LED lighting usually cuts energy use and maintenance, because LED fittings draw less power and last far longer than fluorescent tubes. Many also offer selectable wattage and colour temperature, plus sensor or DALI options that dim or switch lights when areas are empty. Emergency kits can convert some existing LED fittings. The range here includes LED bulkheads, battens and emergency conversion kits.

Do commercial lighting circuits need RCD protection?

No, not always. UK wiring rules require RCD protection for lighting circuits in homes, but in commercial buildings it depends on how the cables are run and how the installation is managed. Cables concealed shallow in walls or partitions often need it. A qualified electrician should confirm what a particular installation needs.
