Decide how the doorbell will be powered first, then the picture it needs to give, then which app or alarm it should report to.

Battery, hardwired or solar

Hardwired doorbells take power from a bell transformer and never need charging: the Ajax DoorBell runs on 12-24V DC or 16-24V AC with a backup battery. The Pyronix DoorbellCam2 runs on its battery with USB-C charging or can be wired to 12-24VAC, and the EZVIZ EP3x Pro has a 5200 mAh battery with an included solar panel and optional 8-24 VAC wiring.

Detection and alerts

PIR and AI detection, as on the Ajax DoorBell, separate people from passing traffic, so alerts arrive when someone approaches the door rather than when a car goes past.

Can I talk to a visitor through a video doorbell?

Does a video doorbell come with an indoor chime?

The EZVIZ DB1C kit does: it pairs the doorbell with a chime and a transformer, so you get a working chime and power supply for compatible doorbell wiring. The Pyronix DOORBELL/CHIME is sold separately, with four melodies at 80 dB or more, running on micro-USB or 3×AA batteries.

Where are video doorbell recordings stored?

On the doorbell, a memory card or a cloud service, depending on the model. The EZVIZ EP3x Pro keeps clips on 32 GB of built-in storage with no subscription for local clips, the DB1C and DoorbellCam2 record to microSD with optional cloud storage, and the Ajax DoorBell records to an Ajax NVR or Ajax Cloud.

Can a video doorbell connect to an alarm system?

The Ajax DoorBell sends video over Wi-Fi and, when paired with an Ajax hub, uses Jeweller and Wings radio for alarm and backup messaging, so it becomes part of an Ajax alarm. The Pyronix DoorbellCam2 joins the Pyronix HomeControl2.0 app, and EZVIZ doorbells run in the EZVIZ app.
