Light Bulbs

This page brings together replacement light bulbs and lamps by cap type: Energizer and Knightsbridge LED filament candles, golf balls and GLS bulbs in B22, E27 and E14, GU10, G9 and G4 LED lamps in multi-packs, LED T8 tubes and high-output corn lamps, Knightsbridge smart Wi-Fi colour bulbs, QTX UV black light and coloured reflector lamps for effects lighting, and LYYT converters that change one lamp cap to another.

Choosing Light Bulbs

Start with the cap on the fitting, then choose the brightness in lumens, the colour temperature, and whether the bulb has to work with a dimmer.

Match the cap

B22 (bayonet cap) and E27 (Edison screw) are the common mains caps for pendants and table lamps, and E14 (small Edison screw) suits candle fittings and wall lights. GU10 is a twist-lock spotlight cap, G9 a small mains capsule, and G4 a 12V capsule for low-voltage fittings, such as the Knightsbridge G4COB1. Large E40 caps take the 54W CRN54CW corn lamp and the QTX 160.026UK 400W black light.

Brightness and colour

Compare lumens rather than watts: the Energizer ENER541 gives 806lm from 7W, and the Knightsbridge GLSD8ABCC gives 1120lm from 8W. Warm white (2700K or 3000K) suits living rooms and bedrooms, cool white (4000K) kitchens and workspaces, and daylight (6000K or 6500K) workshops and garages.

Dimming and smart bulbs

The Knightsbridge CLD4AESC and G5DWW are dimmable, while the CRN27CW corn lamp and G9LED18 are not. Knightsbridge smart bulbs such as the GLS9ESKW (E27) and GU5KWB (GU10) are controlled over Wi-Fi from an app, and the GLS9ESKW adjusts its white tone between 2700K and 6500K.

Tubes, effects lamps and converters

Knightsbridge T8 LED tubes are an alternative to classic T8 fluorescent lamps, in cool white or daylight. For clubs and effects lighting, there are QTX UV black light tubes and bulbs, and R80 reflector bulbs in red, blue, green and yellow. LYYT converters such as the 401.090UK (B22 to E27) let a bulb with a different cap fit an existing lamp holder, up to a 60W load.

Frequently asked questions

What is an E14 light bulb?

An E14 light bulb has a small Edison screw cap, often called SES, and the number refers to the cap's width in millimetres. Candle bulbs for chandeliers and decorative fittings often use this cap. Check the old bulb's cap before choosing a replacement, because an E14 bulb will not fit an E27 or B22 holder. The range here includes small screw cap candle bulbs in filament and smart styles.

What is an incandescent light bulb?

An incandescent light bulb makes light by heating a thin wire filament until it glows. Much of the energy is lost as heat, so these bulbs use far more electricity than LED bulbs for the same brightness. LED filament bulbs keep the classic glass and glowing filament look while using much less power. The range here includes LED filament bulbs in candle and GLS shapes.

How do I dispose of light bulbs?

Take LED and fluorescent bulbs to a household waste recycling centre or a retailer's take-back point rather than putting them in the general bin. LED lamps contain electronic parts and fluorescent tubes contain a small amount of mercury, so they should be recycled separately. Old incandescent and halogen bulbs usually go in general waste. Wrap a broken bulb carefully before you dispose of it.
