Ceiling Lights

Ceiling lights here are Knightsbridge fittings for homes and commercial ceilings, including pre-wired E27 pendant sets in contemporary and vintage styles, GU10 downlights in fixed, tilt, anti-glare and fire-rated versions, integrated LED downlights with selectable wattage and colour temperature, LED panels for suspended grid ceilings, emergency downlights, and a single circuit track system with GU10 spotlights, track pendants and the connectors that join its runs.

Choosing Ceiling Lights

Decide first whether the ceiling needs a lamp holder you fit a bulb into or an integrated LED fitting, then check the fire rating and IP rating the room calls for.

Pendant sets

Every 8270 contemporary and 8271 vintage E27 pendant set here is pre-wired. Most are T2 rated, and most are certified to BS EN 60598-1. Codes with an L, such as the 8270LMB, have a 1.8m drop.

GU10 downlights

A GU10 downlight takes a replaceable lamp: tilt models such as the Odina ODA1TRB angle the beam onto a wall, the Dipa range adds an anti-glare design, and the Ambar AMA4TSW holds four tilting heads in one square frame.

Fire-rated and bathroom downlights

Where a downlight is cut into a ceiling that separates floors, a fire-rated fitting is designed to restore the ceiling's fire resistance: the FireNova FRNTPC is tested to 30/60/90 minutes against solid wood joists. For bathrooms, the VFRSHGICC shower downlight is rated IP65.

Integrated LED and grid ceilings

Integrated LED downlights have no lamp to change, and the SARA and SEREN ranges let you set the wattage and colour temperature on site. For grid ceilings, the LUMI6060PRODALI is a 600x600mm backlit panel with DALI2 control.

Track lighting

The TRK system is a 230V 10A single circuit track, with 1m, 2m and 3m tracks. GU10 spotlights, track pendants such as the TRK8270BK and adaptors fit onto it, and T, X, right-angle and flexible connectors join the runs.

Frequently asked questions

Which ceiling lights can go in a bathroom?

Choose ceiling lights with an IP rating that suits the bathroom zone. Within the zones around a bath or shower, a fitting needs at least splash-proof protection, and IP65 is a common choice. Outside the zones, a standard fitting can often be used. A fire-rated downlight may also be needed where the ceiling acts as a fire barrier. The range here includes IP65 fire-rated shower downlights.

What are LED ceiling lights?

LED ceiling lights use LEDs as the light source, either built into the fitting or as a replaceable lamp. Integrated LED downlights and panels have no bulb to change, while GU10 and E27 fittings take an LED lamp you can swap later. LEDs use much less power than halogen or incandescent lamps. The range here includes integrated LED downlights, LED panels and pendant sets.

How do I wire a ceiling light?

Turn off the lighting circuit at the consumer unit and prove it dead with a voltage tester before you start. Connect the switched live to the fitting's L terminal, the neutral to N and the earth to the earth terminal where the fitting has one. Loop-in ceiling roses carry extra cables, so note where they go. Ask a qualified electrician if any of the wiring is unclear.

How do I change a ceiling light fitting?

Isolate the lighting circuit, then photograph or label the wires before you disconnect the old fitting. Fix the new mounting plate securely, as heavier lights may need a fixing into a joist. Reconnect the wires to the matching terminals, fit the canopy and test the light. Swapping a like-for-like fitting is a common job, but call an electrician if the wiring looks damaged.
