Bullet Cameras

A bullet camera has a long, cylindrical body on a wall or soffit bracket, pointed plainly at the area it watches. Its visible shape can put intruders off, and the body has room for long-range infrared and zoom lenses. This page has HD analogue and IP bullets from Hikvision, Dahua, i-PRO, Hanwha Vision, Axis, Genie and others, including ColorVu, motorised varifocal, ANPR, thermal, 4G, solar and explosion-proof models.

Choosing Bullet Cameras

Choose the signal type, then night vision, lens and any specialist need.

HD analogue or IP

TurboHD bullets send video over coax to a DVR: the Hikvision DS-2CE16U1T-IT3F is an 8MP (4K) bullet with switchable TVI, AHD, CVI or CVBS output, the DS-2CE17H0T-IT3E a 5MP camera that takes Power over Coax, and the HiLook THC-B159-MS a 5MP ColorVu bullet with audio over coax. IP bullets connect to an NVR or PoE switch by network cable and add analytics, such as AcuSense human and vehicle classification on the Hikvision DS-2CD2T46G2H-2I.

Night vision

Infrared bullets record in monochrome after dark: the Hikvision DS-2CD2T46G3-4IZY states IR up to 80 m. ColorVu and full-colour bullets keep colour at night, such as the Hikvision DS-2CD2T87G3-LIY with Smart Hybrid Light and the TP-Link VIGI InSight S385, and DarkFighter models such as the DS-2CD2T86G2H-2I are built for very low light. Dual-illumination bullets such as the Genie PWIP8NBVAFDI combine infrared and white light.

Lens and zoom

A motorised varifocal bullet can be zoomed and focused remotely after installation: the DS-2CD2643G2-IZS has a 2.8-12 mm lens and the Bosch NBE-7702-ALXT a 10.5-47 mm lens. Panoramic dual-lens bullets such as the DS-2CE12KF3TP-DLS and HiLook IPC-B469HAD-LUF/SL give a 180° view.

Specialist bullet cameras

DeepinView ANPR bullets such as the Hikvision iDS-2CD7A46G0-IZHSY read number plates. Sites without mains power can use a 4G solar kit or the EZVIZ EB3 4G battery bullet. HeatPro bi-spectrum cameras such as the DS-2TD2628T-7/QA pair a thermal sensor with a 4MP optical one, and explosion-proof models such as the DS-2XE6222F-IS have 316L stainless housings.

Frequently asked questions

What is a bullet camera?

A bullet camera is a CCTV camera with a long, cylindrical body that points in one fixed direction, usually from a wall or soffit bracket. Its shape makes the viewing direction obvious, which can deter intruders, and many models carry infrared LEDs for night viewing. The range here includes IP and analogue bullet cameras from several makers.

Where are bullet CCTV cameras used?

Bullet CCTV cameras are typically used outdoors to watch a defined area, such as a driveway, car park, gate or the side of a building. A longer lens can cover distant targets, so a bullet often suits long views along a fence line. On low indoor ceilings, a dome or turret is often neater and harder to knock out of position.

Which is better, a bullet or a dome camera?

Neither is better overall, because the right choice depends on where the camera goes. A bullet camera is easier to aim at distant targets and is more visible as a deterrent. A dome camera is more discreet, harder to tamper with and suits indoor ceilings, as its cover hides where the lens points.
