Door Closers
Door closers close a door automatically after it has been opened, at a controlled speed. This page has overhead, concealed, cam-motion, electromagnetic hold-open and swing-free closers from makers including Briton, CDVI, dormakaba and Rutland, plus CDVI and CAME swing door operators with their arms, sensors and parts. Electromagnetic models such as the Briton 1130B.TE.SES hold a door open and release it when the fire alarm sounds or the power fails.

Choosing Door Closers
Choose by the width and weight of the door, then by the fitting position and how easily the door must open.
Power size and door size
The Briton BR996/863UF is a fixed power size EN 3, EN 4 and EN 5 closer for doors up to 950mm wide and 60kg (9963), 1110mm wide and 80kg (9964) and 1250mm wide and 100kg (9965). The Rutland TS.3204.SLFB.SESE is fixed power size EN3 for doors up to 60kg and 950mm wide. The Dahua ASF102S is a carbon steel closer for doors weighing 40-60kg with a door width of 950mm.
Fitting position
The Briton 2130-B-C-SES is a spring adjustable power size EN 2-6 overhead closer certified for door, frame and parallel mount applications, and the Briton 3934.FH.SES comes with an armset and brackets for regular, transom or parallel mounting. The Rutland TS.3204.SLFB.SESE can be fitted in the standard, parallel arm or transom position, and the Rutland ETS.18314.SE fits left- or right-hand doors. The dormakaba 53140101 is a TS 73 EMF body for frame fixing on the opposite hinge side, and it requires an arm.
Ease of opening
The Briton 2003V.SES is easy to fit and adjust to achieve low opening force requirements for ease of access, and it is internally tested to EN 1154 to over 1 million cycles. The ASSA ABLOY DC500A is an adjustable power size 1 to 4 closer with Cam-Motion technology and a guide rail, BS 8300 compliant for ease of access. The Briton 1130B.TE.SES satisfies the requirements of Approved Document M.
Control
The Rutland PSU.1224.9 is a regulated power supply unit with a control module that connects electromagnetic door closers to the fire alarm, and one PSU can take up to 4 Responders or Firetraks.

Frequently asked questions
Which door closers are rated for fire doors?
Ones certified or fire-tested for fire door use, with a rating that matches the door's own fire rating. The Union J-CE24V-SIL is independently certified for use on fire doors and fire-rated for timber FD120 doors, and the Rutland ETS.18314.SE is tested to 60 minutes in EN 1634 fire tests. The Rutland ITS.11204.DAX.FLFR.SE kit is suitable for FD60 fire doors, and the Briton 1130B.TE.SES is suitable for fire door applications.
What is a concealed door closer?
A door closer built to be concealed rather than surface-mounted, which still controls how the door closes. The Adams Rite 5112-2010N (ARC 51N) is a concealed closer for single or double action aluminium doors, with dual closing speeds, three levels of spring tension and a heavy-duty bottom pivot rated for doors up to 120kg. The Rutland ITS.11204.DAX.FLFR.SE double action kit is built around a concealed closer based on the ITS.11204.
What happens to a hold-open closer when the fire alarm sounds?
It releases the door, which then closes under control, and it also releases if the power fails. The Briton 1130B.TE.SES holds the door open in normal use and runs on 24VDC circuits linked to a fire alarm. On the Briton 3934.FH.SES, a test switch simulates a fire condition to check operation, and the Rutland PSU.1224.9 connects electromagnetic door closers to the fire alarm.
What is the difference between hold-open and swing-free?
Hold-open keeps the door at an open position, while swing-free lets it move as though there were no closing force; on fire-alarm-linked closers, the door closes when the alarm operates. The dormakaba 53140101 has electro-hydraulic hold-open between about 70 and 180 degrees, and the ASSA ABLOY 20020305 cam and roller closer has a free-swing mode for care home bedroom doors. The Briton 3934.FH.SES and Rutland ETS.18314.SE can be set to hold-open or swing-free.
What does back check do on a door closer?
It protects what is around the door when it is opened. On the Union J-CE24V-SIL, the back check cuts in when a fire door is opened to 75°, preventing damage to nearby walls or furniture and helping to prevent injury, and the Briton 1130B.TE.SES has a built-in adjustable backcheck to prevent damage to the door and frame. The Briton 1120B.SES, 2003V.SES and 2130-B-C-SES also have back check.
