Entertainment & Stage Lighting

Entertainment and stage lighting is the moving, coloured and effect lighting used at gigs, discos, events and venues, usually controlled over DMX. This range is QTX and Citronic: moving heads, PAR cans, LED bars and blinders, lasers and multi-effect units, mirror balls and motors, UV black light tubes, DMX controllers, lighting stands and a 3.0m triangle truss system for hanging fixtures above a stage.

Wash and PAR lighting

PAR cans flood a stage or dance floor with colour. Citronic SilentPAR models include the SilentPAR-180 with 6 x 30W RGBWA+UV LEDs and the SilentPAR-216 with 18 x 12W, and the SilentPAR-200W gives cool and warm white from 4 x 50W COB LEDs. LED bars such as the QTX 151.592UK wash a wall in segments.

Moving heads and effects

Moving heads pan and tilt a beam across the room: the QTX 150.466UK is an 80W RGBWA head with 540° pan and 270° tilt, and the Citronic Infinity Flying Strobe is 150W. Lasers, derby effects and multi-effect bars add patterns.

Control

Fixtures such as the 150.466UK and SilentPAR-216 are DMX compatible, and many also run in sound-activated or auto modes. QTX DMX controllers, from a 24 channel mini desk to a 512 channel DMX/RDM controller, run the rig with boosters and relay packs.

Mirror balls and UV

QTX professional mirror balls come in 30cm, 40cm, 50cm, 80cm and 100cm diameters with double hanging points, and glass mirror balls in 10cm, 15cm, 20cm and 30cm. Motors turn them, such as the 153.199UK super heavy duty motor rated 50kg. QTX UV black light tubes, such as the 135 mm 106.038UK mini tube and the 1200mm T8 106.036UK, make fluorescent materials glow.

What lighting do I need for a small stage or DJ setup?

A basic rig pairs wash lighting with an effect: two to four PAR cans or an LED bar for colour, plus a moving head, derby or laser for movement. QTX all-in-one bars such as the 151.547UK combine PARs and derbies on a tripod, which suits mobile setups.

What is a PAR can light?

A PAR can is a wash light that floods an area with colour or white light. Citronic SilentPAR models use LED arrays, such as 18 x 12W RGBWA+UV on the SilentPAR-216, and the QTX 154.038UK uses 6x30W COB LEDs with an infrared remote. Most PAR cans and PAR bars here are DMX compatible.

What is a moving head light?

A moving head is a fixture whose head pans and tilts under DMX control to sweep a beam or pattern around a room. The QTX 150.466UK 80W RGBWA head moves through 540° pan and 270° tilt, and the QTX 150.463UK 100W head carries 7 GOBOs.

Do stage lights need a DMX controller?

Not always. Many QTX and Citronic fixtures run in auto or sound-activated modes for simple setups. A DMX controller, such as the QTX 24 channel mini controller or the 512 channel 154.105UK, lets you program scenes and synchronise several fixtures together.

What size mirror ball should I buy?

Glass mirror balls, such as the 10cm 151.581UK and 30cm 151.585UK, suit a small room or a party, and QTX professional balls up to the 100cm 151.416UK, with double hanging points, suit halls and venues. Pair the ball with a motor rated for its weight, such as the QTX 153.199UK rated 50kg.

What is UV black light used for?

UV black light makes fluorescent paint, fabric and decorations glow for parties and themed events. QTX UV black light tubes include 18W 600mm and 36W 1200mm T8 fluorescent tubes. The 4 W F4T5 BLB mini tubes are 135 mm long, and the 160.050UK is a 30W ultraviolet LED bar.

What is a stage blinder?

A blinder is a high-output light pointed at the audience or stage for bright bursts at key moments. The QTX HPWash-100 is a 100W LED blinder with a 40° beam, the HPWash-200 has 4 COB LEDs at 200W, and the Citronic 154.057UK is an 800W blinder and strobe bar.

How are stage lights mounted?

On a stand or a truss. The QTX 180.614UK heavy duty lighting stand with T-bar adjusts from 1.5m to 3.6m and holds 50kg, the LT01 stand holds 30kg, and the 180.607UK triangle truss spans 3.0m with a 120kg load. Several LED bars in this range come with their own tripod.
