Knightsbridge Sockets (13A)

This page gathers Knightsbridge 13A sockets, which can be plain outlets or carry a second function in the plate. Plate finishes include white thermoset, anthracite, metal clad and decorative metal, and the socket types include switched and unswitched outlets, USB charging sockets, RCD sockets, key lockable and nightlight sockets, cooker switch combinations, floor, pop-up and under-cabinet units, IP66 outdoor sockets and smart Wi-Fi sockets.

Choosing Knightsbridge Sockets (13A)

Start with the job the outlet has to do, because many of these sockets build a second function into the plate.

Protection and control built in

The CU9RCD and PM9RCD put a 30mA Type A RCD into a 2G socket, and the CU9RCD is a passive type that resets itself after a power outage. Key lockable sockets such as the SFR9LOCKMW stop unsupervised use in hotel and apartment corridors. The SFR9NLMW has a photocell nightlight for landings, children's bedrooms or hotel hallways, which removes the need for a plug-in nightlight.

Remote, smart and speaker sockets

The CU9KW smart Wi-Fi socket works with Alexa and Google Assistant, shows power use in its app and is not suitable for EV charging. For the garden, the OP9R is an IP66 2G outdoor socket switched by a key fob at a range of up to 30 metres, with a 2990W maximum load. The CS9905BCW builds a 3W RMS Bluetooth speaker and a dual USB charger into a switched socket.

USB output

Charging power rises through the USB models. Dual USB-A sockets such as the FPR9901PCW share 2.1A and the SFR9124MW 2.4A, while dual USB A+C sockets such as the SFR9940MW share 4.0A. FASTCHARGE sockets such as the SFR9945MW give 45W over USB-C, enough for tablets and laptops, and quad USB sockets such as the SFR7USB4MW share 5.1A.

Plate and box

Match the plate to the other accessories in the room: curved edge white plates such as the CU9000U, anthracite Part M such as the PM9001N, heavy duty metal clad such as the MR9000U, or screwless and flat plate metal. Check box depth before first fix; the SFR9000MW needs 25mm, while the CS9905BCW speaker socket needs a 35-47mm back box.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Knightsbridge double socket?

A Knightsbridge double socket is a twin-gang 13A outlet that can run two plugs from one faceplate. Versions include switched and unswitched, single or double pole, and models with USB charging built in. Check the back box depth before fitting, as USB and speaker sockets can need a deeper box. The range here includes double sockets in moulded, metal clad and screwless finishes.

Are Knightsbridge sockets any good?

Yes, Knightsbridge sockets suit everyday domestic and commercial wiring when fitted to a suitable box. Look for BS 1363 marking, double pole switching and a plate style that matches the switches in the room. Heavy duty metal clad versions can suit garages and workshops, and IP66 outdoor models can suit gardens. The range here includes RCD, key lockable and USB sockets.
