Wiring Accessories
Wiring accessories are the fittings at the end of a cable run: plug sockets, light switches, fused spurs, dimmers, outlets for TV, data and phone lines, and the boxes they sit on. This collection covers them in moulded, metal clad, decorative metal and IP66 outdoor plate ranges, and adds the smaller parts of an install, such as junction boxes, Euro modules, cartridge fuses, fused plugs, trailing sockets and extension leads.

Choosing Wiring Accessories
Work out what the points in a room must do, then choose one plate range and finish for the whole room.
Plate ranges
Moulded Knightsbridge plates come in white thermoset, as in the curved edge CU and square edge SN ranges, or in anthracite for the Part M PM range, made to contrast with the wall. Heavy duty metal clad plates such as the MR9000 socket come complete with a back box. Decorative metal ranges include screwless, flat plate, rounded edge and square edge styles, and outdoor OP plates such as the OP2 20AX switch and the OP9N socket are rated IP66.
Outlets and modules
Beside sockets and switches you can fit TV, satellite, RJ45 and telephone outlets, or build a modular plate from Euro modules such as the NETCAT6WH CAT6 data module, the NETUSBPDBK 45W USB charger and the NET13WH 13A socket module.
Boxes, fuses and leads
Pattress boxes such as the SN1400 at 25mm, SN1700 at 35mm and SN1610 at 47mm set how deep an accessory can be, and junction boxes such as the SN8420 20A 4-terminal join cable runs. For appliances there are BS 1362 cartridge fuses such as the SN13AFUSE, plug tops such as the SN1383, and trailing sockets and extension leads to complete the range.

Frequently asked questions
What are wiring accessories?
Wiring accessories are the fittings that finish a fixed electrical installation where people use it, such as sockets, light switches, fused spurs, outlet plates and the boxes behind them. They are also called electrical accessories. Many come as matching ranges in moulded or metal finishes. The range here includes sockets, switches, fused spurs, data modules and back boxes.
Are wiring devices the same as wiring accessories?
Yes, wiring devices is the term often used outside the UK, particularly in North America, for what UK electricians call wiring accessories. The two terms cover the switches, sockets and outlets fitted to the fixed wiring. UK accessories follow British designs, such as the square-pin socket. The range here includes UK pattern sockets, switches and fused spurs.
How do you choose quality wiring accessories?
Choose wiring accessories made to the relevant British Standard, such as BS 1363 for plugs, sockets and fused spurs, with clearly marked ratings. Check the current rating against the circuit, pick a back box deep enough for the accessory and its cables, and use weatherproof fittings outside. The range here includes moulded, metal and weatherproof plates and enclosures.
