Choosing Door Alarms
Door held open alarms
The DW304, DW305 and DW306 sound when a door stays open longer than an adjustable delay, set between 30 seconds and 7 minutes. The DW304 and DW306 are typically used on kitchen doors in student accommodation, to stop smoke from cooking drifting into corridors and causing fire alarm activations, and reset as soon as the door is closed.
Exitguard fire exit door alarms
The EX104GT is battery powered with a battery fault monitor. The EX105G and EX105R are 12VDC powered, cannot be powered by batteries and have an alarm output relay for connection to remote systems. The EX106G and EX106R are mains powered with six AA batteries supplied for mains failure, and their integral power supply provides up to 200mA at 12Vdc for ancillary equipment. The EX105SF is a flush mount stainless steel version, and the EX105GKM adds a key position monitor switch output.
Alarms for intruder systems
The EX125i and EX125IS-HX are designed for Grade 2 intruder alarm systems, with a 108dB piezo sounder at 1m, keyswitch control with random key numbers and a supervised loop for on/off monitoring. The EX125IS-HX also suits harsh environments where physical damage may occur.
Kits and Exit Stopper alarms
Floor to Store kits such as the EXF2S-DK and EXF2S-BK alarm a door that staff pass through frequently, with six selectable alarm tones and an alarm strobe. The STI-6400 Exit Stopper flashes while it sounds a 95/105 dB alarm, the STI-6402 is the double door version, and the STI-6400WIR adds wireless monitoring and a 12/24V DC connection. The STI-6400-RK kit is for remote installation.

Frequently asked questions
What does a door held open alarm do?
It sounds when a door is left open longer than a set time. The Hoyles DW305 DorWatcher is used to prevent doors being left open for an extended period, with the delay adjusted at installation between 30 seconds and 7 minutes, and the DW304 and DW306 reset automatically as soon as the door is closed.
How do I install a door alarm?
The STI-6400 Exit Stopper can be mounted on top of the door or to its right or left, and the STI-6400-RK kit adds 2.4m of wire, connecting blocks and fixings for a remote installation. Hoyles units such as the EX105G come with a surface mount door contact on 1m of pre connected cable, and the DW305 open-door delay is adjusted at installation.
Can a door alarm report to an intruder alarm panel?
Yes. The Hoyles EX125i is designed for Grade 2 intruder systems and passes any alarm or fault to the main intruder alarm system over a supervised loop for on/off monitoring with a separate alarm output. The EX125IS-HX suits panels monitoring 1k/1k or 2k2/4k7, and the EX105SF can be used as part of a system that interfaces with other equipment such as intruder alarms or access control systems. The EX105SF also has an alarm output relay for connection to remote systems.
How does a door alarm work?
It sounds an alarm when the protected door is opened. The Hoyles EX105G has a surface mount door contact, and its integral high-power sounder activates on opening to warn people nearby that the door security has been breached. The STI-6400 Exit Stopper sounds and flashes for 30 seconds, 3 minutes or continuously, as selected on site, and a key operated override silences it to allow authorised exits.
How can staff pass through an alarmed door without setting it off?
Use a Floor to Store kit. With the Hoyles EXF2S-DK, staff enter a 4 digit passcode to isolate the alarm temporarily and get a 10 second window to open the door, and pressing the Press to Exit button on the secure side lets them re-enter without triggering the alarm. A manager code restricts users from changing features.
