Choosing Wall Lights
Choose a plaster wall light by the pattern of light you want on the wall, the lamp it takes, and whether it projects from the wall or sits flush.
Light pattern
Up and down wall lights such as the PWL2 and PWL3 light the wall above and below the fitting, while the PWL8 is an uplighter that sends its light upwards. Curved designs such as the PWL1 and PWL5 give a soft, rounded shape, and widths vary: the PWL1 is 110mm wide and the PWL3 200mm.
Lamp and wattage
The PWL1 to PWL6 take a G9 lamp at 40W max, the PWL7 and PWL8 an E14 lamp at 40W max, and the recessed PWRCC and PWRCR a GU10 lamp at 35W max. Lamps are not included with most fittings, so choose one alongside. Dimming depends on the lamp, so pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer switch.
Recessed wall lights
The PWRCC (round) and PWRCR (rectangular) are trimless plaster wall lights recessed into the wall.
| Model | Style | Lamp | Max wattage |
|---|---|---|---|
| PWL1 | Curved, 110mm wide | G9 | 40W |
| PWL2 | Linear up and down | G9 | 40W |
| PWL3 | Curved up and down, 200mm wide | G9 | 40W |
| PWL7 | Up and down | E14 | 40W |
| PWL8 | Uplighter | E14 | 40W |
| PWRCC | Recessed round, trimless | GU10 | 35W |
| PWRCR | Recessed rectangular, trimless | GU10 | 35W |
Painting and placing
Every fitting is natural gypsum plaster in a white finish that can be painted to blend into the surrounding wall. Most can be used as a single fitting or in a group for a smooth ambient lighting feature, such as a run along a hallway or either side of a bed. Most are rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms.

Frequently asked questions
Can plaster wall lights be painted?
Yes. Every Knightsbridge plaster wall light here has a white finish that can be painted, so it can match the surrounding wall or be left white. The fittings are natural gypsum plaster, so paint them before the lamp goes in and with the power off.
What bulb does a plaster wall light take?
The cap varies by model: the PWL1 to PWL6 take a G9 lamp at 40W max, the PWL7 and PWL8 an E14 lamp at 40W max, and the recessed PWRCC and PWRCR a GU10 lamp at 35W max. Lamps are not included with most of these fittings.
Are these wall lights dimmable?
Yes, subject to the lamp. Every fitting in the range is dimmable, but the dimming comes from the lamp and the dimmer switch, so fit a dimmable G9, E14 or GU10 lamp and a dimmer that suits it. A non-dimmable lamp will not dim in a dimmable fitting.
What is the maximum wattage for these wall lights?
The PWL1 to PWL8 take a lamp of 40W maximum, and the recessed PWRCC and PWRCR a GU10 lamp of 35W maximum. Stay at or below that rating whatever the lamp type; an LED lamp of similar brightness draws well under the maximum.
Can these wall lights be used in a bathroom or outside?
No. Most are rated IP20, which gives no protection against water, so they are for dry indoor rooms such as hallways, landings, living rooms and bedrooms, away from baths and showers. For an exterior wall, choose a weather-rated fitting from the outdoor lighting range instead.
What is a recessed plaster wall light?
A wall light that sits flush in the wall rather than standing off it. The Knightsbridge PWRCC is round and the PWRCR rectangular; both are trimless gypsum plaster fittings that take a GU10 lamp at 35W max, with a white finish that can be painted.
What does an up and down wall light do?
It lights the wall above and below the fitting at the same time, giving two soft beams that frame the fitting. The Knightsbridge PWL2 is a linear up and down design, the PWL3 and PWL4 are curved, and the PWL7 takes an E14 lamp; the PWL8 is an uplighter that lights upwards only.
Are lamps included with these wall lights?
No, the lamp is not included with most fittings, so buy a G9, E14 or GU10 lamp to suit the model. Choose a dimmable lamp if the light will be on a dimmer, and keep to the 40W or 35W maximum of the fitting.
Can plaster wall lights be fitted in a group?
Yes. Most of these fittings can be used as a single fitting or in a group, giving a smooth ambient lighting feature, for example a row along a hallway or a matching pair either side of a bed or mirror. Painting them the wall colour keeps a group discreet.
