Background music and public address

Installed background music and paging systems often use 100V line speakers fitted with a transformer and selectable volume tappings. The Adastra 952.281UK KV-T ceiling speaker has 3 tappings, and the 953.015UK UX series mixer-amplifier is a 240W 100V unit with Bluetooth, DAB+/FM and a USB player in a half-width 1U case. Where a speaker must be fire rated, the 952.205UK fire dome ceiling speaker is certified to EN 54-24.

Live sound and performers

Active PA cabinets such as the Citronic CASA 178.112UK carry their own class D amplifier, DSP with 5 profiles and a Bluetooth and USB/SD player. Passive cabinets such as the CASA 178.113UK are driven by a separate power amplifier. The Monolith mk3 171.237UK pairs an active subwoofer with a pole-mounted column. For vocals, the TU4 171.043UK runs 4 handheld UHF transmitters from one receiver, and the NU-X B-7 Pro 171.827UK sends a wireless in-ear monitor mix over up to 50m.

Leads, connectors and adaptors

Leads and connectors make up a large part of the range, including HDMI, audio, guitar and mains leads. For speaker lines, connectors such as the Neutrik 763.481UK Speakon take a twist lock and are rated up to 37A rms.

Screens, displays and TV

Projector screens include electric and manual pull-down models. Interactive flat panels such as the Hikvision DS-D5C86RB/B combine an 86" 4K touch screen with Android 14, a camera and microphones for conferencing. TV parts include indoor and outdoor aerials and distribution amplifiers such as the Mercury 130.031UK, a 4-way unit with a 5G/4G filter.

It is an installed PA system in which the speakers carry 100V transformers with volume tappings, so one amplifier can feed many speakers on the same line. The Adastra KV-T ceiling speakers have 3 tappings, and the 952.205UK has four, from 0.75W to 6W. A 100V mixer-amplifier such as the 953.015UK drives the line and adds sources such as Bluetooth and DAB+.

Should I choose an active or a passive PA speaker?

Choose active for a quick setup and passive when you already have, or want, a separate amplifier. The Citronic CASA 178.112UK is active, with a class D amplifier, DSP and a Bluetooth player built in. The CASA 178.113UK is passive, with a 35mm pole-mount socket, and can be driven by a power amplifier such as the Citronic 172.103UK, a 1U unit rated 2 x 150W RMS.

How many wireless microphones can one receiver run?

A quad receiver such as the Citronic TU4 171.043UK runs 4 handheld transmitters from one unit. It has four individually programmable UHF channels, a 7-band EQ per channel, individual XLR outputs or a mixed jack output, and licence-free operation at 863-865MHz in the UK and EU. The 171.044UK version uses 4 bodypacks with neckband and lavalier microphones.

Which speakers here are certified to EN 54-24?

Adastra makes the EN 54-24 speakers in this range. The 952.205UK is a 100V fire dome ceiling speaker with fire-resistant cable rated to 95°C. The 952.244UK F40V is an IP66 outdoor column speaker with a 95°C thermal fuse, and the 952.246UK and 952.247UK are weatherproof IP66 fire rated horn speakers at 15W and 30W.

What does an interactive flat panel do?

It is a large touch screen with its own computer, used for teaching, meetings and training. The Hikvision DS-D5C86RB/B is an 86" 4K panel with up to 50 touch points, Android 14, an integrated camera and an 8-array microphone. The DS-D5ABKY2-B trolley carries an 86-inch panel up to 135 kg, and the DS-D5SC3B-W dongle mirrors a laptop screen to the panel wirelessly.

How do I share one TV aerial between several rooms?

Use a splitter or a distribution amplifier between the aerial and the TV points. A passive splitter such as the Mercury 122.075UK divides one coaxial feed into 4. The Mercury 130.031UK is a 4-way distribution amplifier with 8dB gain, DC pass and a built-in 5G/4G filter that avoids interference from mobile signals, and the 130.033UK is an 8-way version.
