Choose a server by the software it runs, the number of channels it has to handle and how its storage is protected.

Software and licences

Milestone Husky servers such as the 350R and 700R come pre-loaded with Milestone XProtect VMS and can be used with all XProtect VMS variants; the VMS licences are purchased separately. The Axis 03428-003 tower recording server has 16 AXIS Camera Station Pro licences and 10 AXIS Audio Manager Pro licences, and the Axis 02542-001 rack recording server includes 96 AXIS Camera Station licences. The Hikvision HikCentral-P-VER/HW1D/64 combines hardware and software with no activation required, and the Comelit SRV-DSK300B has Comelit CCTV Manager software pre-installed.

Channels and capacity

The Axis 03428-003 scales to 32 channels and a recording bitrate of 256 Mbit/s, and the Axis 02542-001 can be expanded to a recording bitrate of 1.5 Gbit/s, approximately 150 channels. The Dahua IVSS7108 has 128-channel IP video access and the Dahua DHI-DSS7016D-S2 supports up to 1,000 cameras. The Comelit SRV-VMS500B manages up to 1024 channels on the device and 10000 channels via additional transfer servers.

Storage and resilience

For archive storage, the Comelit SRV-STG016A houses 16 HDDs and the SRV-STG024A houses 24 HDDs, with RAID 0, 1, 5 and 6 and two built-in redundant power supplies. The Axis 02542-001 offers RAID levels 0/1/5/6/10, and the Milestone 700R has full hardware redundancy with dual OS drives, power supplies and RAID. The Axis 02543-001 uses a Trusted Platform Module that is FIPS 140-2 level 2, so recorded video is stored encrypted on the hard drive.
