Frequently asked questions
What protection ratings do vehicle CCTV cameras carry?
Vehicle CCTV cameras commonly carry an IP rating for water and dust protection, defined in IEC 60529, and often an IK impact rating, defined in EN 62262. The Axis 03118-001 is rated IP66, IP67 and IK10, and the Hikvision DS-2XM6542G1-ID(4MM) is rated IP68 and IP69K with IK10 vandal proofing. The Hikvision DS-2XM6726G1-ID(4MM) is built to IP67 and IK10.
Which standards do onboard bus and rail cameras meet?
Cameras for onboard rail and bus use can comply with transportation industry regulations such as EN 50155, EN 45545 and NFPA 130, so check the standards a camera meets. The Axis 01932-001 and 01920-001 domes comply with all three, and the Hikvision DS-2XM6726G1-ID(4MM) carries EN50155-2017, EN45545 and E-MARK (ECE R10) approvals. The Axis 03118-001 onboard dome is not rollingstock compliant.
What supply voltage do onboard CCTV and mobile network cameras need?
Onboard cameras can take a wide DC input range, and some can also be powered by PoE. The Hikvision DS-2XM6726G1-ID(4MM) mobile dome camera takes 9-36V or PoE (802.3af), with power of max. 7.5 W. The Hikvision DS-2XM6542G1-ID(4MM) mobile network camera is powered from 9~36 V DC, with a power consumption of max. 10 W.
Which dash cam monitors the driver?
A dash cam with driver status monitoring (DSM) watches the driver and raises an alarm on the driving status it detects. The Hikvision AE-DI2032-G40(B)(EU) industry dashcam monitors driver status with DSM alarms and also has Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) functions. Its built-in gyroscope and six-axis G-Sensor are for harsh acceleration, harsh deceleration and harsh cornering.
Does a 4G dash cam need a special SIM card?
Yes, a 4G dash cam can require an industrial SIM card, and an ordinary SIM card may not be allowed. The Hikvision AE-DI2032-G40(B)(EU) requires an industrial SIM card (MP2) and prohibits the ordinary SIM card (MP1), with one industry Micro SIM slot for its 4G network connection. Its built-in Wi-Fi AP lets it be previewed, played back and configured via APP.
