Alarm sensors are the detectors, contacts and sirens that make up an intruder alarm, reporting to a control panel or hub that raises the alarm. This range covers wireless and wired PIR, dual-tech and glass-break detectors, door contacts, shock sensors and sirens from Ajax, Hikvision AX PRO, Pyronix, Texecom, Optex and GJD, and the ESP Fort smart alarm system with kits, hub, keypad and accessories.

Choosing Smart Alarms & Sensors

Add sensors that belong to the same system as the panel or hub they will report to, then choose the devices for the areas they protect.

Motion detectors

PIR detectors sense body heat moving across their field of view. Pyronix KX10DP is a wired pet-immune PIR covering 10m at 85°, Hikvision DS-PDC15-EG2-WE is a wireless curtain PIR for 15 m, and ceiling detectors such as the Texecom Capture CD-W cover 8 m 360°. Dual-tech detectors such as the Optex FlipX FLX-S-DT add microwave to PIR.

Doors, windows and glass

Magnetic contacts, such as the Pyronix MCNANO-WE and Hikvision DS-PDMCX-E-WE outdoor contact rated IP66, signal when a door or window opens. Shock sensors such as the Pyronix NANO/SHOCK-WE and glass-break detectors such as the Hikvision DS-PDBG8-EG2-WE detect an attack before entry.

Outdoor detection

The GJD630 D-TECT is a battery-powered universal outdoor quad PIR rated IP65, for gardens and yards before anyone reaches the building.

ESP Fort smart alarm

The ESP Fort system is sold as the ECSPK3, ECSPK4, ECSPK5 and ECSPK6 kits, with the ECSPHB hub with backup battery, keypad, PIR and pet PIR, contacts, vibration sensor, remote control, proximity tag, SOS button, booster, and solar or mains external sirens.

Standards & compliance

EN50131 is the European standard for intruder alarm equipment, and Grade 2 is stated on devices such as the Pyronix KX10DP, MCNANO-WE and NANO/SHOCK-WE.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix alarm sensors from different brands?

Wireless sensors are generally tied to their own maker's panel or hub, because makers use their own radio protocols, such as 868 MHz AX PRO for Hikvision or Enforcer two-way for Pyronix. Wired detectors connect to any compatible wired panel zone.

What is the difference between a PIR and a dual-tech detector?

A PIR detects body heat moving across its view. A dual-tech detector, such as the Optex FlipX FLX-S-DT or Pyronix KX12DT-WE, combines PIR with microwave sensing and needs both to trigger, which reduces false alarms from heat sources and draughts.

What is a pet-immune PIR?

A pet-immune PIR ignores movement by small animals while still detecting people. The Pyronix KX10DP is a wired pet-immune PIR covering 10m at 85°, rated EN50131-2-2 Grade 2, and the ESP Fort ECSPPET is the pet PIR for the Fort smart alarm.

Do I need a glass-break detector?

Yes, if intruders could reach a large window: a glass-break detector responds to the sound of breaking glass, so it signals an attack before anyone enters. Ajax glass break detectors in black and white and the Hikvision DS-PDBG8-EG2-WE omni detector, covering 8 m, are in this range.

What is the ESP Fort smart alarm?

It is ESP's wireless smart alarm system, sold as the ECSPK3, ECSPK4, ECSPK5 and ECSPK6 kits and as separate devices. The ECSPK4 kit contains a smart hub, 4 PIRs, 2 door/window contacts and 2 remote controls, and extra PIRs, contacts, sirens and a keypad can be added.

What does EN50131 Grade 2 mean?

EN50131 is the European standard for intruder alarm equipment, and Grade 2 is the security grade for low-to-medium risk, typical of homes and small businesses. Pyronix detectors and contacts such as the KX10DP and MCNANO-WE state Grade 2 in their titles.

Is there a ceiling-mounted motion detector?

Yes. The Texecom Capture CD-W is a dual-tech ceiling detector covering 8m through 360°, as the battery-powered GDE-0001 on a CR123A cell and the Ricochet wireless GDE-0006, and the Hikvision DS-PDCL12-EG2-WE is a wireless AX PRO ceiling PIR covering 12 m through 360°. The Capture CD-W combines quad element pyro and K-band microwave detection and is EN50131-2-4 Grade 2.

Which alarm sensors can be fitted outdoors?

The GJD630 D-TECT outdoor quad PIR is rated IP65 and runs on two CR123 batteries, the Hikvision DS-PDMCX-E-WE outdoor wireless magnetic contact is IP66, and the Hikvision DS-PS1-E-WE is a 110 dB IP65 wireless external sounder. Choose the detector that matches your panel, as the wireless models are tied to their maker's system.
