TP-Link NVRs

TP-Link NVRs here are VIGI network video recorders that record IP cameras to internal SATA hard drives, with H.265+ compression to save storage. They run from the 4-channel VIGI NVR1004H-4P to the 64-channel NVR4064H, with 8 and 16-channel models and a 32-channel NVR4032H in between. PoE+ versions such as the NVR1008H-8MP power each camera and carry its video over a single RJ45 cable.

Choosing TP-Link NVRs

Count the cameras you need now and later, decide whether the recorder should power them, then size the storage.

Channels and PoE+

The NVR1004H-4P has four PoE+ ports of up to 30W from a 53W total budget. The NVR1008H-8MP has eight PoE+ ports at 30W per port and a 113W total budget, and the NVR2016H-16MP takes 16 IP inputs over PoE+ (IEEE 802.3af/at) with a 140W budget, so these cameras need no separate power supply. The NVR1008H takes eight IP cameras at a maximum of 5MP, and the NVR1016H sixteen at a maximum of 8MP.

Storage

The NVR1004H-4P takes one internal SATA drive of up to 16TB, and the NVR1008H, NVR1008H-8MP and NVR1016H take one SATA drive of up to 10TB. The NVR2016H-16MP has two SATA interfaces of up to 16TB each, 32TB in total. The NVR4032H has four SATA interfaces for 40TB in total, and the NVR4064H four for up to 64TB.

Viewing and playback

The NVR1004H-4P, NVR1008H-8MP and NVR2016H-16MP have 4K HDMI output. The NVR4032H outputs up to 3840x2160 at 30Hz over HDMI alongside VGA, and the NVR4064H has 2 HDMI and 1 VGA outputs for independent displays. Simultaneous playback covers 4 channels on the NVR1004H-4P and NVR1008H, 8 on the NVR1008H-8MP and 16 on the NVR4032H and NVR4064H.

Larger sites

The NVR4032H and NVR4064H have dual Gigabit Ethernet ports for multi-address mode, load balancing and network fault tolerance. The NVR4064H adds 16 alarm inputs and 4 alarm outputs, and the NVR2016H-16MP has 6 alarm inputs and 4 outputs.

The NVR1004H-4P, NVR1008H-8MP and NVR2016H-16MP have built-in PoE+ ports. Is a hard drive included with these NVRs?

Not with the NVR1004H-4P, NVR2016H-16MP or NVR4032H, which come without a drive, so fit your own SATA drive in each of these. The NVR1004H-4P takes up to 16TB, the NVR2016H-16MP two drives of up to 16TB each, the NVR4032H four of up to 10TB each and the NVR4064H four for 64TB in total.

Can I use other makes of camera with a VIGI NVR?

Yes, these VIGI recorders support ONVIF, so third-party IP cameras can be added alongside TP-Link VIGI cameras. The NVR2016H-16MP, NVR4032H and NVR4064H support ONVIF Profile S, and the NVR1004H-4P automatically detects and activates unused VIGI cameras when they are connected. Check that a third-party camera is ONVIF compliant before adding it to the recorder.

How do I watch VIGI recordings away from site?

Use the VIGI app, a web browser or the VIGI Security Manager software. The NVR1008H supports the VIGI mobile app for iOS and Android, and the NVR4064H can send automatic alerts to mobile devices on motion detection or camera disconnection. Live feeds, playback and settings can be reached remotely from a smartphone or PC with an internet connection.
