Choosing Panic & Personal Alarms
Decide whether the alarm stays at a desk or goes with the person.
Fixed hold-up buttons
A double-push button needs its two buttons pressed together, which guards against accidental activation. The Hoyles PAB-S has a normally closed PA microswitch that opens only when both buttons are pressed, plus a lid tamper. The Knight KP4B shows its state with a central flag, and the Elmdene ELM-PA-G3-W is a Grade 3 double push button with integral resistors to suit popular control panels.
Wireless panic buttons
Wireless buttons join an alarm panel by radio, so they can be placed without cabling. The Hikvision DS-PDEB1-EG2-WE(B) is a single-button AX PRO panic button with Tri-X two-way radio, AES-128 encryption and an IP66 rating. The Ajax 138642.79.WH1 is a Grade 3 wireless hold-up device with a stated hub range of 1,500 m. The Texecom GBG-0001 combines an Elmdene panic button design with Ricochet mesh wireless.
Portable and lone worker alarms
The Hikvision DS-PDEBP1-EG2-WE is worn on a lanyard or the wrist and runs on a CR2032 coin cell. For larger sites, the GJD1280-868 is a handheld LoRa panic button with 2,000m of coverage and 128-bit encryption, and the Scope ESBMLC is a rugged IP67 UHF alarm with lone worker, man down and indoor tracking functions.

DaDo panic strips
Hoyles makes most of the products on this page, chiefly DaDo panic strips. A DaDo strip is a switch strip in a tamper-resistant top cover on an aluminium mounting rail. Its switch is normally open with flying leads at the two ends, and it connects to Hoyles products such as the Aidalarm disabled toilet alarm. RPDFC flexible corners take a strip round internal and external corners, the RPDEC kit finishes the ends, and RPLED strips such as the RPLED01000 add LEDs that need a 12VDC supply.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a personal alarm and a panic alarm?
A personal alarm is usually carried on the person, while a panic alarm is often a fixed button linked to an intruder alarm system. Wireless pendants and portable buttons blur the line, as they can raise an alert wherever the user is. Choose by whether the alert should reach a monitored system or simply sound on site. The range here includes fixed panic buttons, wireless pendants and dado panic strips.
How do panic buttons work?
Pressing a panic button changes a contact or sends a radio signal that tells the alarm panel to raise a hold-up alarm. The panel can then sound a siren or send a silent signal to a monitoring centre, depending on how it is set up. Many buttons latch until they are reset with a key. The range here includes wired and wireless panic buttons.
What is a panic button?
A panic button is a switch that lets someone call for help quickly in a threatening or emergency situation, usually by raising an alarm on a security system. Buttons can be fixed under a counter or desk, run along a wall as a dado strip, or carried as a wireless pendant. The range here includes push buttons, dado strips and portable wireless buttons.
