Lubricants & Cleaning Supplies

Lubricants and cleaners keep tools, fixings, switches and electronics working. This page includes multi-purpose sprays such as WD-40 Multi-Use Product and AC-90, penetrating oils for seized fixings, silicone and PTFE lubricants, greases including a copper anti-seize paste, cutting and chain lubricants, and cleaners for electrical contacts, circuit boards and optics. A compressed gas duster, a degreaser, a foam cleaner and an adhesive label remover are also in the range.

Choosing Lubricants & Cleaning Supplies

Start with the job in hand: freeing a part, lubricating it, protecting it or cleaning it.

Multi-purpose sprays

A multi-purpose spray displaces moisture, loosens stuck parts, lubricates and protects metal from rust. The WD-40 Multi-Use Product 701.309UK has a Smart Straw for precise or wide spray and a 360° valve that works upside down. AC-90 does not contain silicone, and its sizes include a 250ml can and the 701.413UK 5L pack with a trigger spray. GT85 (701.349UK) and 3-IN-ONE drip oil also stop squeaks.

Freeing seized parts

Penetrating oils work into threads to release rusted fixings. RP-90 (701.416UK) contains MoS2 for easier reassembly. The WD-40 Specialist Fast Release Penetrant (701.323UK) withstands -20°C to +90°C. When you refit a fastener, CS-90 copper anti-seize paste (701.433UK) coats the thread to stop seizing and galling.

Lubricants and greases

Match the lubricant to the part. SP-90 (701.418UK) leaves a dry silicone film. SL-90 adds PTFE to reinforce its oil film, CD-90 is made for chains and drives, and WG-90 is an NLGI 2 calcium grease suited to wet and corrosive environments. The WD-40 Specialist White Lithium Grease (701.329UK) is a non-drip grease for metal-to-metal joints.

Cleaners

EC-90 (701.443UK) evaporates rapidly without residue and is non-conductive, while Kontakt Super 10 cleans contacts and leaves a protective conductive lubricating film. Cleaner 601 is formulated for sensitive plastics such as polycarbonate, Kontakt IPA is 99.7% isopropanol for electronics and optics, and Dust Off 67 removes dust with an inert gas. Options for other surfaces include the WD-40 Specialist Fast Acting Degreaser, Multi Foam 77 and Label Off 50.

Frequently asked questions

What are lubricants and cleaners used for?

Lubricants reduce friction and wear between moving parts, while cleaners remove dirt, grease, oxidation and residue from surfaces and contacts. Installers often use them together: a cleaner prepares the part, then a lubricant keeps it moving and protected from rust. Choose a residue-free cleaner for electrical work. The range here includes penetrating oils, silicone sprays, greases and contact cleaners.

How do I lubricate a multi-point lock?

Open the door and apply a light oil or PTFE spray to the hooks, rollers and bolts along the door edge. Work the handle and key several times to spread it through the mechanism, and treat the keeps on the frame as well. Wipe off any excess so it does not collect dirt. If the lock maker's guide calls for a specific lubricant, use that.

What is a lubricant?

A lubricant is a substance, such as an oil, grease or dry film, that sits between moving surfaces to reduce friction, heat and wear. Many lubricants also displace moisture and protect metal against rust. Oils suit fine mechanisms, while greases stay put on slow, heavily loaded joints. The range here includes multi-purpose sprays, PTFE oil and a copper anti-seize paste.
