Under Cabinet Lighting

Under cabinet and shelf lighting puts light where a ceiling fitting cannot reach: onto a worktop, into a display cabinet or along a shelf. This range has Knightsbridge 2W under cabinet lights with a colour switch, UNDKIT 2.5W dimmable lights sold singly or in packs of three, and 0.8W plinth lights. LYYT adds aluminium LED tape profiles for wardrobes, walls and corners, and a battery switch light.

Choosing Under Cabinet Lighting

Decide whether the lights will run straight off the mains or from a driver, then choose the colour and how they mount.

Mains or driver

The CABCTBC, CABCTMB, CABCTW and triangular TRIBCTBC run at mains voltage with no driver, and the CABCTC is described as a 2W AC light. Each of these five switches between 3000K, 4000K and 5000K. The CABCT lights are non-dimmable, and they and the TRIBCTBC have a 1.2m cable. The UNDKIT3BCCW and UNDKit3WWW packs are constant current and supplied with a dimmable driver, a 6-way connection box and three 2.5W lights, and the single UNDK3WCW and UNDK3WWW are listed as compatible with the matching kit and come without a driver.

Colour and output

The 4000K UNDK3BCCW and UNDK3WCW give 220lm and 225lm, and the 3000K UNDK3BCWW and UNDK3WWW 185lm and 195lm. The CABCTC and CABCTMB give 135lm.

Plinth lights and tape profiles

The SFPLBC and SFPLMW plinth lights cast a low glow across a floor or stair and need a mounting depth of 25mm. The SFPLBC and SFPLMW are certified to EN 60598-1, EN 62471 and EN 55015. LYYT profiles hold LED tape: the 156.820UK is a 1m wardrobe rail, the 156.838UK a 2m two-way bar and the 156.905UK a 45° angle for corners.

Frequently asked questions

How do you choose shelf lighting?

Choose shelf lighting by where the light needs to land, how the fittings will be powered and the colour you want. Small round lights suit the underside of a shelf, while LED tape in an aluminium profile gives a continuous line of light. Warm white suits displays and living areas, and cool white suits work areas. The range here includes compact round lights and tape profiles.

Can shelf lights be recessed?

Yes, many small round shelf and cabinet lights can be recessed into a shelf or cabinet base so they sit nearly flush. Check the cut-out size and the depth of the shelf, and leave room for the cable and any driver or connection box. Some fittings can also be surface mounted where cutting is not possible. The range here includes lights for surface or recessed mounting.

How do battery under shelf lights work?

A battery under shelf light runs from its own batteries, so it needs no wiring and can be fixed with adhesive pads, screws or a magnet. It suits cupboards, wardrobes and shelves far away from a socket. Battery lights are usually less bright than mains fittings, and the batteries need replacing now and then. The range here includes a battery switch light that can mount magnetically.

What is mains LED under cabinet lighting?

Mains LED under cabinet lighting runs directly on the household supply, with no separate driver to hide. That makes wiring simpler, because the fittings can connect to a lighting circuit or fused spur through a switch. Check whether the fitting is dimmable, as some mains types are not. The range here includes driver-free mains lights with a switchable colour temperature.

How do you install under cabinet lighting?

Fix the lights to the underside of the cabinets, run the cables back to a driver or connection box, then connect the supply through a switch or fused spur. Turn off the power before any wiring, and use an electrician for new circuits. Recessed fittings need a cut-out drilled in the cabinet base. The range here includes kits supplied with a driver and connection box.
