Door Loops & Cords

Door loops and cords carry cables safely from a fixed point such as the door frame onto the door leaf, so locks and other hardware in the door can be wired. This page covers armoured surface-mounted door loops, concealed door loops fitted in the hinge line or a mortice, armoured door cords and lead covers, from makers including CDVI, Abloy, RGL Electronics and STP.

Choosing Door Loops & Cords

Choose by whether the loop can be seen, the bore the cables need and the length of the loop.

Armoured and traditional door loops

The Abloy DL8 is a heavy duty surface mounted armoured door loop, cast in satin anodised aluminium and suitable for centrally pivoted doors. The RGL Electronics DL01 is a 450mm armoured door loop for external or internal use. The STP STP-SPDL03 has cast aluminium alloy ends and is designed for indoor use only, and the STP-SPDL02 is an economy door loop with a small diameter conduit. The CDVI GF45 is the traditional door loop: a 45cm loop with square aluminium ends.

Flex loops

The CDVI FLEX is a 30cm door loop with a metal loop and a 7mm internal diameter. The CDVI FLEX60 is a 60cm door loop, also 7mm in internal diameter, with cast aluminium ends and concealed fixings.

Concealed door loops

The CDVI GFI is mounted in the hinge line of the door, so it is completely hidden when the door is in the closed position. The STP STP-SPDL04-G provides a neat way to conceal the transfer of cables from frame to door leaf. The RGL Electronics CDL-300 is a 300mm concealed door loop for internal use, with an iron embedded box and connector and a steel spring.

Door cords

The 3E Security 3E0250-A is a surface mount door cord with an armoured loop, an internal diameter of 9mm and an outer diameter of 14mm.

Frequently asked questions

What is an armoured loop made of?

It is a flexible metal conduit, such as stainless steel or plated steel, with end caps of cast metal or plastic. The STP STP-SPDL03 has flexible armoured conduit with cast aluminium alloy ends, and the STP-SPDL02 plated steel flexible conduit with black plastic end caps. The CDVI GF60 is a stainless-steel loop with Zamak or cast aluminium end caps, and the Abloy DL8 is cast in satin anodised aluminium.

What size is an armoured door cord?

Check the cord's length and its internal diameter, which sets how much cable it can carry. The 3E Security 3E0250-A is a 400mm armoured door cord with an internal diameter of 9mm and an outer diameter of 14mm, for surface mounting. The Abloy EA280 (8810) is a concealed door cord fitted in a mortice that is invisible when the door is closed.

How is a loop fixed in place?

A surface loop is screwed to the frame and the door leaf at its two ends, while a concealed loop sits in the hinge line or a mortice. The RGL Electronics DL01 takes 4 No 6 x 30mm screws for surface mounting, and the CDVI GF45 has square aluminium ends with 4 fixing holes per end. The CDVI GFI concealed door loop is mounted in the hinge line of the door.

What size of cable bunch fits through a door loop?

It is limited by the loop's internal diameter, so measure the bunch of cables against the stated internal diameter before choosing. The Abloy DL8 takes a maximum wire bunch diameter of 8mm. The CDVI GF45 has a minimum internal diameter of 9mm and the CDVI FLEX a minimum internal diameter of 7mm, and the spring of the RGL Electronics CDL-300 has an internal diameter of 10mm.

Which door loop suits a door with powered locks in the door leaf?

Choose a door loop that carries power and control cables between the frame and the door leaf, either concealed or armoured on the surface. The STP STP-SPDL04-G concealed door loop is for use where powered locks are installed in the door leaf, and conceals the cable transfer from frame to door leaf. The STP STP-SPDL03 armoured door loop carries power and control cables to the door leaf.
