Energizer Light Bulbs

The Energizer light bulbs on this page are LED filament lamps, which keep the look of a traditional bulb while drawing 4W to 8W. There are candle bulbs for chandeliers, wall sconces and bedside lamps, and GLS bulbs for pendants, table lamps and floor lamps, with B22 bayonet, E27 screw and E14 small screw caps. Every one gives warm white light at 2700K, and some are dimmable.

Choosing Energizer Light Bulbs

Match the cap to the lampholder first, then choose the shape, the brightness and whether the bulb has to dim.

Cap

B22 (BC) is the bayonet cap that pushes in and twists, usual on UK ceiling pendants. E27 (ES) is the larger Edison screw and E14 (SES) the small Edison screw often found on chandeliers and wall lights. The 7W and 8W GLS bulbs come as B22 and E27 pairs. For example, the 7W S12851 is B22 and the S12852 E27.

Shape and brightness

Candle bulbs give 470lm or 550lm, roughly a 40W incandescent bulb. The 7W GLS bulbs give 806lm, roughly a 60W bulb, and the 8W GLS bulbs 1060lm, roughly a 75W bulb, for ceiling pendants and larger rooms.

Dimming

The S12855, S12856, S12851, S12852 and S29786 dim with an LED-compatible dimmer. The S12868, S12870, S12857 and S12858 are non-dimmable, so fit them on a standard switch.

Where they suit

Most of these bulbs are rated IP20, and the S12870 is for indoor dry areas, so use them in living rooms, bedrooms, dining areas and hallways rather than damp or exposed positions.

What is an LED filament bulb?

An LED filament bulb uses thin strips of LEDs shaped like the wire filament of an old incandescent bulb, so it looks traditional through a clear shade but uses a fraction of the power. The Energizer S12868 has a clear glass filament design, and the S29786 is a clear filament candle.

What is the difference between B22, E27 and E14 caps?

B22, also called BC, is a bayonet cap that pushes in and turns. E27 (ES) is a screw cap, and E14 (SES) a smaller screw cap. Energizer makes the 7W GLS as the S12851 in B22 and the S12852 in E27, so check the lampholder before choosing between two otherwise identical bulbs.

Which Energizer filament bulbs can be dimmed?

The S12855 and S12856 candles, the S29786 E27 candle and the S12851 and S12852 GLS bulbs are dimmable; use them with an LED-compatible dimmer. The S12868 and S12870 candles and the 8W S12857 and S12858 GLS bulbs are non-dimmable and belong on an ordinary switch.

Which Energizer LED replaces a 60W bulb?

The 7W GLS bulbs: the S12851 (B22) and S12852 (E27) give 806 lm, about a 60W incandescent. For a brighter room, the 8W S12857 and S12858 give 1,060 lm, about a 75W bulb. The 470lm S12868 candle bulb is about a 40W incandescent equivalent.

Which candle bulb suits a chandelier or wall sconce?

Pick the candle whose cap matches the fitting: the S12868 and S12855 are B22, the S12870 and S29786 E27, and the S12856 E14. The S12856 and S29786 give 550 lm. The S12868, S12870 and S12855 give 470 lm. The S12856 E14 candle is dimmable.

What colour of light do these bulbs give?

Warm white at 2700K, close to the colour of a traditional incandescent bulb and suited to relaxed rooms. The S12857 GLS gives a cosy 2700K warm white. There are no cool white or daylight versions on this page, so for a whiter light look at other LED bulbs.

Do filament bulbs spread light evenly round a room?

Yes, they spread light widely. The S12868, S12870, S12855, S12856, S12851, S12852, S12857 and S12858 have a 320° beam angle, which fills lampshades and open fittings with little shadow. That makes them suited to pendants and shades rather than directional spotlighting, where a narrow-beam spotlight lamp is the usual choice.

Can Energizer filament bulbs be used in a bathroom or outside?

They are indoor bulbs. The S12868 is for indoor use only, the S12870 is for indoor dry areas, and the S12851, S12852, S12855, S12856, S12857 and S12858 are rated IP20, which offers no protection from water. For damp or outdoor positions choose a fitting rated for them.
