What this open-area sounder does

This Apollo device gives an alarm signal in sound and red light across an open space, from one fitting on an addressable loop. The panel can address it individually or as part of a group.

How it works

• Tones: a tone is selected during commissioning to suit local regulations or customs, and a secondary tone can give an alert.
• Sound or flash: it normally switches both together, and either can be switched alone where a flash or a sounder is not permitted.
• Isolator: a short-circuit isolator separates a faulty section of loop wiring from the rest, and this one is built in and controllable.

Where to use it

It is designed for open areas on CoreProtocol, Discovery or XP95 systems. Its -10ºC to +55ºC operating range and IP 21C rating should be checked against the location before fitting.

The very low volume level can give a local warning for staff in places such as nurse stations in hospitals.

What the figures mean in practice

• 101 dB(A) at 1m: sound falls with distance and through doors, so the number and spacing of devices is a design job.
• 8.20 mA and 3.10 mA: top-volume current is the worst case for loop calculations. Lower volumes draw less.

Installing it

The address is set with the appropriate XPERT address card. Once every device has its volume set, the panel registers all the individual volume settings in one step.

Planning your system

Choose a base first: the 45681-210APO or the SA5000-200APO. The panel must run CoreProtocol, Discovery or XP95, so read about the protocol trap before ordering.
