About this product

The Apollo SA5000-200APO is an XPERT 8 intelligent mounting base for Soteria, Discovery and XP95 addressable fire detectors. It suits installers building or retrofitting a loop, with a wide interior for easy access to cables and terminals. An XPERT 8 card comes with it for setting each device's address.

Key features

  • Fits across the ranges – all detectors in the Soteria, Discovery and XP95 range fit
  • More room to work – a wide interior diameter for ease of access to cables and terminals
  • Quick to fix – E-Z Fit lets you place the base over the screws, slide it into place and tighten
  • Keeps the loop going – the isolated wiper maintains loop connectivity during temporary removal of devices
  • Address card included – XPERT 8 card, Part Number 38532-064, supplied with the base
  • Tidy alignment – a base mark allows for LED detector alignment
  • Discourages tampering – the detector can be locked in by a grubscrew

For installers

  • Mounting: 100mm diameter x 20mm height, 63g. Fit the base screws first, then slide the base into place and tighten them.
  • Cabling: +L2 loop in and out positive, –L1 in and –L1 out loop (isolated) negative, functional earth, +R and –R for a remote indicator.
  • Compatibility: Soteria, Discovery and XP95 detectors, with isolated and non-isolated devices supported. L1 & L2 are polarity sensitive when used with a Soteria detector.

Frequently asked questions

Which detectors fit this base?

All detectors in the Soteria, Discovery and XP95 range. The detector requires a clockwise rotation into the base for fitting.

Is the address card included?

Yes. The XPERT 8 card, Part Number 38532-064, is supplied with the base.

How is the address set?

By removing pre-punched pips from the XPERT 8 card. Apollo's Installation Guide 39215-005 gives the details.

How many addresses can the XPERT 8 card give?

The card increases the address capacity to 254 when using Soteria detectors and CoreProtocol enabled fire control panels.

Does the wiring change on a retrofit?

It can. Where there are no isolators in the system, or on a retrofit, Apollo recommends the separate arrangement for detectors without an isolator.

Can a detector be locked into it?

Yes. It is locked by a grubscrew, using a 1.5mm hexagonal driver.

Apollo XPERT 8 Intelligent Mounting Base, White SA5000-200APO

Overview

A detector base is the fixed part of a fire detector. It holds the wiring on the ceiling, and the head twists in and out of it.

This Apollo base takes three addressable detector ranges. That means one base can serve a mixed job or a later upgrade within those ranges.

How it works

  • Address card: an addressable system gives every device its own number. You remove pips from the card to set that number for the device fitted here.
  • Isolated wiper: a wiper is a sprung contact. Here it keeps the loop connected while a head is out, so taking one down need not break the circuit.
  • Isolated negative: the –L1 in and –L1 out terminals are separate, and the wiring differs for detectors with and without an isolator.

Where to use it

It suits new loops, and retrofits where existing heads are being changed. For a smoke detector on a Soteria job, allow for 48mm overall height with the Soteria Optical Smoke Detector.

Check the detector's own ratings and the site conditions to decide where it can go.

What the figures mean in practice

  • 254 addresses: this higher capacity depends on both Soteria detectors and CoreProtocol enabled panels. Without both, plan on your panel's normal limit.
  • 20mm height: a low base, so most of the depth below the ceiling comes from the head.

Installing it

With E-Z Fit, the screws can go in first. The wiring can be done before the base goes on, which helps on a tight ceiling.

  • Soteria polarity: L1 and L2 must go the correct way round with a Soteria detector, so keep polarity consistent across the whole loop.
  • Remote LED: detectors without isolator with a common Remote LED have their own wiring arrangement, so follow the maker's instructions.
  • Lining up: use the base mark so that the LED faces the way people will approach.

Planning your system

Allow one base per detector. The job also needs an addressable panel running a matching protocol, plus a loop calculation covering every device.
