Cable Ties & Clips

Cable ties bundle cables together, and cable clips hold a run to a wall or other surface. Here you will find white and black nylon cable ties in packs of 100, stainless steel ties for outdoor and marine settings, nail-fix clips for CAT5 network cable, black clips for RG59+2 shotgun cable, and dip-coated accessories made for fire cable such as NoBurn.

Choosing Cable Ties & Clips

Decide whether the cables need bundling or fixing to a surface, then match the material to where the run goes.

Nylon cable ties

Every Mercury nylon tie here is sold in a pack of 100 and has a maximum load of 181lbs. White ties include the 3.6 x 140mm 782.018UK and 2.5 x 200mm 782.021UK, and black ties include the 4.8 x 300mm 782.025UK and 4.8 x 380mm 782.029UK. The 782.018UK, 782.021UK, 782.025UK, 782.027UK and 782.029UK have a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.

Stainless steel ties

The Haydon HAY-SS200 is 200 mm long and the HAY-SS350 350 mm, both 4.6 mm wide and sold in packs of 100. The HAY-SS200 has a self-locking head and an approximate tensile strength of 80 kg, and the HAY-SS350 suits outdoor, marine, chemical and HVAC applications where nylon ties may deteriorate.

Clips for data and coax cable

For CAT5 cable there are nail-fix clips in boxes of 100: black clips for wall mounting with standard nail fixing, and grey nail-mount clips. The black RG59+2 clips are designed for shotgun cables and come 100 to a pack.

Fire cable accessories

The Ventcroft VCA-C7SR and VCA-S8DR are dip-coated for softer edges that reduce the risk of damage to fire cable, and both are packed 50 to a bag. They are compatible with NoBurn fire cable as well as other brands.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use stainless steel cable ties instead of nylon?

Use stainless steel where nylon ties may deteriorate. The Haydon HAY-SS350 suits outdoor, marine, chemical, HVAC, transport and infrastructure applications, and the HAY-SS200 suits cable trays, marine, high-temperature and fire-resistant uses. For everyday bundling, the Mercury nylon ties each have a maximum load of 181lbs.

What sizes of nylon cable tie are there?

There are six Mercury nylon ties. White ties are the 3.6 x 140mm 782.018UK, the 2.5 x 200mm 782.021UK and the 4.8 x 200mm 782.026UK; black ties are the 4.8 x 200mm 782.027UK, the 4.8 x 300mm 782.025UK and the 4.8 x 380mm 782.029UK. Each Mercury tie pack holds 100 ties.

How much load can a cable tie hold?

Each Mercury nylon tie has a maximum load of 181lbs, whatever its size. The Haydon HAY-SS200 stainless steel tie has an approximate tensile strength of 80 kg. The heavy-duty HAY-SS350 is 350 mm long and 4.6 mm wide, and its ties should not be overtightened.

Which clips suit CAT5 network cable?

Use the nail-fix CAT5 clips, which come in boxes of 100 in black or grey. The black clips are made for wall mounting, fix with a standard nail and give a clean and tidy installation. The grey clips are nail-mount clips designed for CAT5 cabling.

What clips hold RG59+2 shotgun cable?

The black shotgun cable clips are designed specifically for RG59+2 shotgun cable and come 100 to a pack. They keep the cable secure and neatly organised, suit domestic and commercial settings, and are easy to install for DIY and professional use.

Is there anything here for fire alarm cable?

Yes, two Ventcroft accessories made for fire cable, the VCA-C7SR and VCA-S8DR. The VCA-C7SR and VCA-S8DR are each dip-coated so their edges are softer and less likely to damage fire cable, and they suit NoBurn and other fire cable brands. The VCA-S8DR complies with BS476 and BS5839, and installations using the VCA-C7SR should meet BS 5839:2013.

What temperatures can nylon cable ties take?

The Mercury 782.018UK, 782.021UK, 782.025UK, 782.027UK and 782.029UK nylon ties have a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. They include white ties such as the 3.6 x 140mm 782.018UK and black ties such as the 4.8 x 380mm 782.029UK. Typical uses of the uncoated stainless steel Haydon HAY-SS200 include high-temperature applications.

What is the difference between a cable tie and a cable clip?

A cable tie wraps round cables to bundle them or secure items, while a cable clip fixes a cable to a surface. The CAT5 clips here, for example, are for wall mounting with a nail. Use ties to group a run and clips to hold it along a wall.
