Thirty-two channels at the full 320 Mbps is a serious write load: about 3.46 TB a day. Every 16 TB disk you fit buys a little under five days of continuous recording across all thirty-two channels, so filling all four bays reaches about eighteen days. Longer retention on a system this size means motion recording, sensible bitrates, or archiving off to the eSATA port.

Trade tip: the eSATA connection is for archive, not for live recording. Keep the recording array internal and use external storage for what you need to keep beyond the overwrite window.
