Door Entry Kits

A door entry kit puts the entrance panel and the indoor phones or monitors for a set number of flats or offices in one box, usually with the power supply and controller they need. This range covers audio and video kits for houses and small blocks in surface and flush versions, kits with coded access keypads or proximity readers, kits whose Wi-Fi monitor links to a phone, and 4G and DECT wireless kits for entrances that cable cannot reach.

Choosing Door Entry Kits

Start with the number of ways, meaning the call buttons on the panel: a three-flat entrance needs a three-way kit.

What a kit contains

The Videx 4K-3S/CL is a three-way surface audio kit whose panel carries a speaker unit, three call buttons and a 4901 coded-access keypad module, supplied with 3011 audiophones and a Videx power supply. Video kits add a camera panel and screens: one Comelit PAC ViP kit holds a Quadra entry unit, a power supply, a network switch and a hands-free Wi-Fi monitor, and it arrives pre-programmed.

Audio or video, and which cable

Audio kits use handsets and multi-core cable; the 3+1 wiring of the Videx 4K-3S/CL needs at least four cores to every telephone. Video kits vary: the Bell System BS5 installs with standard CAT5 cable, the Aiphone GT-2M3/VFS is wired in 2 wires of solid non-twisted copper, and Fermax DUOX PLUS kits such as the DMVP-04/V are 2-wire.

Wi-Fi, 4G and wireless kits

BPT kits built around the XTS 7" Wi-Fi monitor, such as the MTMFVRIP7B1, open the front door from a smartphone. The Fermax 1431//A WAY-FI kit has a 7" IPS capacitive monitor and can take 2 more monitors without an extra power supply. Where no cable can reach the gate, the CAME VRMSA4G1 is a 4G LTE audio kit, and the Aiphone WL-11 links its door and master stations by DECT wireless.

Panels and finishes

Many kits are listed in surface and flush versions, so check the wall before choosing. The Aiphone GT-2M3/VFS panel is 2.5mm BS316 marine-grade stainless steel, the Bell System BS5 panel is 3mm anodised aluminium with a camera that has a built-in infrared lamp, and BPT VRW panels such as the VRWFPAGV2D are IK09 rated vandal-resistant stainless steel.

How many ways does my door entry kit need?

Count the flats or offices behind the entrance and choose a kit with that many ways, as a way is one call button with its indoor unit. The Videx 4K-3S/CL covers a three-apartment or three-office entrance, the Fermax DMVP-04/V has 4 call buttons and the Bell System BS5 a five way panel. For larger blocks, BPT VRW panels such as the VRWFPAGV2D take up to 98 call buttons.

Can I add extra phones or monitors to a kit later?

Yes, many kits can be extended with extra indoor units. On the Videx 4K-3S/CL, two more audiophones can be added in each flat, giving three handsets per call button. The Fermax 1431//A WAY-FI kit takes 2 more monitors without an extra power supply, and the Comelit PAC Quadra ViP kit can be expanded with other ViP products.

Is there a wireless door entry kit?

Yes, a few kits here avoid a cable between the door and the indoor unit. The Aiphone WL-11 uses DECT wireless on 1.9 GHz, needs no wiring and stores 100 visitor images. For a gate, the CAME VRMSA4G1 is a 4G LTE audio kit with its own antenna, and the Bell System GS6/VRS is a 4G GSM kit with an antenna on a 5m cable.

Can a door entry kit let people in with a code or a fob?

Yes, some kits include a keypad or a proximity reader on the panel. The Videx 4K-3S/CL carries a 4901 codelock module giving three codes and three relays, the Aiphone GT-2M3/VFS+AC10U has a keypad for up to 100 access codes of 4, 5 or 6 digits, and the Fermax DMVP-04/V marine panel has an integrated proximity reader.

Which door entry kits let me answer from my phone?

Kits with a Wi-Fi monitor or an app interface can pass calls to a phone. BPT kits with the XTS 7" Wi-Fi monitor, such as the MTMFVRIP7B1, come with 4 app licences and support up to four simultaneous app connections per call. On the Aiphone GT-2M3/VFS kit, an app call can be added to an apartment by fitting a GTTLI.
