Cable Protection & Management

Cable protection and management products keep cable runs tidy and protected where they pass through walls and racks, gather on a desk or meet at an outdoor joint. This collection holds Knightsbridge brush faceplates and modules such as the NETBRUSH2, IP68 gel junction boxes such as the JB0014, the JB003 connector and JB006 IP66 glands, plus Mercury nylon cable ties, D-Line cable tidy units, the All-Rack 1UBSP rack panel and Superlec shotgun cable clips.

Choosing Cable Protection & Management

Choose cable management by where the cable runs: through a wall, into a rack or into an outdoor joint.

Brush plates and modules

Brush faceplates such as the NETBRUSH2 (1G, 86 x 86 mm) and NETBRUSH4 (2G, 147mm x 86mm) give a tidy cable entry and exit through a wall, for a floating TV look. The NETBR2GW (50 x 50mm, white) and NETBR4GGY (100 x 50mm, grey) are brush euro modules, which Knightsbridge says are not intended for use alongside other modules in the same faceplate or alongside power sockets in the same channel. The brush plates and modules are rated IP20.

Racks and loose cables

The All-Rack 1UBSP is a 1U brush strip panel for a standard 19" rack that stops dust entering the rack. D-Line cable tidy units gather loose cables to keep a space organised, with 3 cable entry and exit slots on the large 788.020UK and the small 788.024UK.

Outdoor joints and glands

For outdoor joints, the JB0014 3-way and JB0015 4-way gel junction boxes are IP68 rated, rated 24A at 250V/450V and supplied with cable sleeves and a lever connector. The JB003 is an IP68 16A 3-way cable connector for outdoor and underwater wiring that takes cables of 5mm to 14mm diameter. The JB006 pack holds 10 IP66 M20 cable glands for 20mm knockouts and cables of 6-12mm.

Ties and clips

Mercury nylon cable ties run from 140mm to 380mm long, in black or white. Mercury quotes a maximum load of 181lbs on every size. The Superlec clips from Blake UK hold RG59+2 shotgun cable, 100 to a pack.

Frequently asked questions

What is a brush faceplate used for?

A brush faceplate lets cables pass neatly through a wall, with the brush covering the opening. Knightsbridge makes the NETBRUSH2 1G (86 x 86 mm) and the NETBRUSH4 2G (147mm x 86mm), assembled in white ABS and rated IP20, and suggests them for achieving a floating TV look. Cables are not included, so run and terminate them separately.

Can I fit a brush module beside a socket?

No, Knightsbridge says its brush modules are not intended for use alongside other modules in the same faceplate or alongside power sockets in the same channel, because hazardous voltage may be present and easily accessible. The NETBR2GW (50 x 50mm, white) and NETBR4GGY (100 x 50mm, grey) are euro modules that give a tidy cable entry and exit from the wall.

How do I make a waterproof cable joint outdoors?

Use an IP68 gel junction box or cable connector sized for the cable. The JB0014 (3-way) and JB0015 (4-way) gel boxes are rated 24A, come with cable sleeves and a lever connector, and take H07RNF cable from 0.75mm² to 2.5mm². The JB003 3-way connector, rated IP68 at 2 bar, suits outdoor and underwater wiring on H07RNF 3G cable up to 4.0mm².

What size cable does an M20 cable gland take?

The Knightsbridge JB006 M20 glands take cables with diameters of 6-12mm and fit 20mm knockouts. The JB006 glands are IP66 rated, made from robust hard plastic for indoor and outdoor use, and come in a pack of 10. Measure the outer diameter of the cable you are running and check it falls inside the gland range before you fit it.

Which cable tie size should I use?

Choose a tie long enough to go round the bundle with enough tail to pull tight. Mercury nylon ties here run from 140mm to 380mm long, in black or white and packs of 100. Sizes include 3.6 x 140mm, 2.5 x 200mm and 4.8 x 380mm. Mercury quotes a maximum load of 181lbs for every tie here.

What is a cable tidy unit?

A cable tidy unit is a box that gathers loose cables to keep a space organised and tidy. The D-Line 788.020UK (large, 0.71 kg) and 788.024UK (small, 0.42 kg) are white units with 3 cable entry and exit slots, and D-Line says the range comes in 2 sizes and various colours.
