LED Lighting

LED lighting uses light-emitting diodes in place of a filament or discharge tube, and here it covers the linear and decorative side of the range: LED tape and flex, aluminium tape profiles, linkable striplights, rope, string and festoon lights, plus G4 COB lamps and Energizer filament bulbs. Most of the collection comes from LYYT and Knightsbridge, with Mercury torches and work lights and QTX UV lamps.

Choosing LED Lighting

Much of this collection is linear lighting that is cut, joined and powered as a system, so choose the tape, its voltage and its housing together.

Tape and flex

LED tape and flex come in 12V and 24V versions, with Knightsbridge LFC24 flex in lengths including 1, 3 and 5 metres and reels of 30 and 50 metres, in warm white, cool white, daylight, single colours, RGB and RGBW. Knightsbridge LFC24CCT flex adjusts from 2700K to 6000K, and COB tape such as the LYYT 156.665UK gives a seamless line without visible dots.

Protection rating

IP20 tape is for dry interiors such as shelves and coves, IP65 and IP67 versions for kitchens, bathrooms and outdoors, and IP68 tape for the wettest positions.

Profiles, connectors and control

Aluminium tape profiles, in forms including surface, plaster-in, crowned and corner, hide the tape and spread its light, finished with end caps. Solderless connectors join lengths, and the Knightsbridge LEDFRA8 RF touch remote dims and sets colour temperature up to 288W.

Decorative and portable lighting

LYYT rope lights are rated IP44, as are string and festoon lights such as the heavy duty 155.406UK and the connectable 155.680UK festoon, for outdoor use. Mercury rechargeable torches and LYYT PIR strip lights cover portable and cupboard lighting, and QTX supplies UV blacklight lamps, including a 400W E40 bulb at 365nm.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 12V and 24V LED tape?

The voltage of the power supply or driver: 12V tape needs a 12V supply and 24V tape a 24V supply, so the two cannot share one. Knightsbridge LFC24 flex is 24V, in lengths including 1, 3 and 5 metres and reels of 30 and 50 metres; the LYYT 153.722UK DIY kit is 5m of 12Vdc tape, and the LYYT 153.806UK COB kit is 24V.

Can LED strip lights be used outdoors?

Yes, if the rating suits the position. IP20 tape is for dry interiors, IP65 and IP67 tape is sealed against water jets or temporary immersion, and IP68 tape such as the LYYT 153.693UK is fully waterproof. LYYT rope lights here are IP44, as are string lights such as the 155.406UK.

Do I need an aluminium profile for LED tape?

It is not essential, but a profile protects the tape and adds a diffuser so the individual LEDs do not show. LYYT and Knightsbridge profiles include surface, plaster-in, crowned, box section and corner forms, in 1m and 2m lengths with matching end caps.

Can LED tape change colour temperature?

Yes, CCT tape does. Knightsbridge LFC24CCT flex adjusts from 2700K warm white to 6000K daylight, and the Knightsbridge LEDFRA8 RF touch remote controls CCT and dimming for loads up to 288W. RGB and RGBW tape gives a full colour range instead.

What is COB LED tape?

COB (chip on board) tape packs the LEDs so closely that it produces an unbroken line of light without dots, even without a diffuser. The LYYT 156.665UK 24V seamless COB strip carries 528 LEDs/m, and the LYYT 153.806UK COB kit gives 1001 lm/m at 2700K.

Which LED lamps suit a filament or G4 fitting?

Energizer LED filament bulbs include B22 candle and E27 GLS fittings, such as the 8W 1060lm warm white GLS, for a traditional look. If a small capsule fitting takes a 12V G4 lamp, the Knightsbridge G4COB1 COB lamp gives 185lm from 1.5W. More lamps are listed in the Lighting collection.

What is the difference between LED rope light and LED tape?

Rope light has its LEDs sealed inside a round flexible tube and runs straight from 230V, such as the LYYT 155.015UK 45m clear rope light rated IP44. LED tape is a flat self-adhesive strip that runs from a 12V or 24V supply and is usually fitted in a profile.

What is a linkable LED striplight?

A linkable striplight is a ready-made LED fitting that joins end to end to make a longer run. Knightsbridge makes 230V versions, such as the UCLED22CW at 22W and 1730 lumens in cool white 4000K and the UCLCT13 at 13W with adjustable colour temperature and 1055 lumens, and 24V linkable flat striplights such as the LED11WCW.
