Single-Phase Prepaid Meters

Single-phase prepaid meters are prepayment electricity meters for single-phase supplies. Metro's three IP54 rated models are designed for landlords and property managers, take PayPoint power codes and each have an emergency credit function: two 80A meters, one supplied with a wired keypad so the meter can be housed remotely, and a 60A meter with an LED low credit warning.

Choosing Single-Phase Prepaid Meters

The three Metro meters share a single-phase prepayment design. Compare them by how low credit is signalled, by where the keypad sits and by how readings are taken, then check the electrical figures of the MET004 and MET200 in the table.

ModelWiring modeVoltage circuit power consumptionCurrent circuit power consumptionWorking temperature
MET004Single phase two-wire (LNNL)≤2W 10VA≤4VA-25ºC to 70ºC
MET200Single phase two-wire (LLNN)≤1W 10VA≤4VA-20ºC to 70ºC

Rated and starting current

The MET004 and MET200 have a rated current (Ib) of 5A and a starting current of 20mA, which is 0.4% of the rated current. The maximum current (Imax) is 80A on the MET004 and 60A on the MET200.

Low credit warnings

The silent low credit warning of the MET001 uses subtle notifications in place of disruptive alarms, and the MET001 has 20kWh of built-in emergency credit. The MET004 notifies users discreetly when credit is running low, and the MET200 gives visual LED alerts for low credit levels.

Keypad and meter readings

The keypad of the MET004 is a User Interface Unit (UIU), so the meter can be housed remotely while the user keeps convenient access. The MET001 has optical eye communication, which enables external data transfer and secure meter readings. The MET004 and MET200 have a meter constant of 1000 imp/kWh.

Homes and vehicle charging

The MET004 and MET200 are meters for households seeking control over energy consumption, and they can meter private electric vehicle charging stations. With the MET004, landlords and property managers can monitor and manage tenant electricity usage, which reduces disputes.

Frequently asked questions

What is a single phase prepaid meter?

A single phase prepaid meter is a pay-before-use electricity meter made for a single-phase supply, the usual supply in homes, flats and small units. Landlords fit one as a private sub-meter so a tenant or unit pays for its own power in advance. A three-phase supply needs a different meter. The range here includes MID-certified single-phase meters with PayPoint top-ups.
