About this product

The Apollo Discovery 58100-908APO is a manual call point with isolator for addressable fire alarm loops. A person presses it to raise the alarm, and it interrupts the polling cycle for a very fast response. It suits Discovery systems and is XP95 and CoreProtocol compatible, with a resettable element in a red housing.

Key features

  • Resets without a new glass – a resettable operating element with a front reset mechanism
  • Raises the alarm quickly – interrupts the polling cycle for a very fast response
  • Protects the loop – the isolated version, with an amber/yellow LED for a short-circuit either side
  • Quick to commission – front facing accessible addressing and a seven-segment DIL switch
  • Easy to spot in alarm – a 170º viewable LED indicator
  • Wiring can be proved early – a connector allows continuity testing before commissioning

For installers

  • Power: 17 - 28 V dc from the loop. Quiescent 100 µA, power up surge 1 mA, 4 mA in alarm with the LED illuminated.
  • Mounting: 89mm wide x 93 mm high x 26.5 mm depth, with a backbox for surface mounting as standard. 110 g flush mounted, 160 g surface mounted.
  • Cabling: two-wire supply, polarity sensitive. Terminal block L1 -ve/L2 +ve, with clip-on terminal blocks.
  • Compatibility: Discovery (XP95 and CoreProtocol compatible).
  • Standards: EN 54-11, EN 54-17: 2005 (isolated version), CPR, LPCB. IP24D.

Frequently asked questions

Does it have an isolator?

Yes. Part 58100-908 is the version with isolator. Part 58100-910 is the one without.

Does it need a new glass after use?

No. It has a resettable element that resets from the front with the reset key.

Can a protective lid be added?

Yes, but check the standard first. Apollo warns the call point does not conform to EN54-11 when the hinged lid is fitted and secured with the locking tag.

Can it be surface mounted?

Yes. A backbox for surface mounting comes as standard, and it weighs 160 g surface mounted.

Can it be tested from the panel?

Yes. It responds to a test command with a value of 64, and the panel should recognise this as a test signal without raising a general alarm.

Apollo 58100-908APO Discovery manual call point with isolator, angled front view

Apollo Discovery Manual Call Point with Isolator, Addressable, Red 58100-908APO

What this call point does

This Apollo call point lets anyone raise a fire alarm by hand. It gives the system a human trigger, which still matters when people notice a fire before a detector does.

It suits installers building or extending an addressable loop, and building managers replacing a damaged unit.

How it works

  • Deformable element: pressing the front deforms the resettable element and operates a switch. No glass has to break.
  • Interrupting the poll: a panel normally asks each device in turn for its status. This device breaks into that cycle, which is why the response is very fast.
  • The isolator: an isolator cuts off a short-circuited section of loop so the rest keeps working. An amber/yellow LED shows a short-circuit on the wiring either side.

Where to use it

Call points usually sit at exits and on the routes to them, at a height people can reach, and the system design fixes the exact positions. It works from -20ºC to 60ºC, with no condensing or icing.

IP24D is a modest rating, so choose a weatherproof type for exposed positions.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Analogue values: 16 is the normal value the panel reads, and 64 is the alarm state value it reads when the call point operates.
  • 100 µA quiescent: add this standing draw for each device to the loop calculation, along with the 4 mA alarm current.
  • 26.5 mm depth: this is the shallow figure for the call point itself, and the surface backbox adds to what stands off the wall.

Installing it

  • Polarity: keep L1 and L2 the right way round, as the supply is polarity sensitive.
  • First fix: clip-on terminal blocks make it possible to wire first, then prove the cabling with the continuity connector before commissioning.
  • Addressing: set the seven-segment DIL switch at commissioning. A DIL switch is a small bank of on and off switches.

Planning your system

The job needs an addressable panel using a compatible protocol, and enough devices on the loop calculation. See other Apollo call points if you need the version without isolator, or browse all manual call points for other systems.

A hinged cover (part 26729-152) and locking tags (part 26729-179) are the maker's parts for accidental operation. Only use them after checking the EN54-11 warning with whoever holds the fire strategy.

The fire alarm design also decides how many isolators each loop needs and where they sit.

Standards and approvals explained

  • EN 54-11: the standard for manual call points.
  • EN 54-17: 2005: the standard for short-circuit isolators, which is why it applies to this isolated version.
