About this product

The Apollo 55000-127APO is a Series 65 heat detector for conventional fire alarm systems, in class BR standard form. It suits places that are dirty or smoky in normal use, where smoke detectors are unsuitable. Its maximum application temperature is 65°C, with a maximum static response temperature of 85°C.

Key features

  • Goes where smoke detectors can't – for applications where smoke detectors are unsuitable
  • Copes with grime and fumes – suited to environments that are dirty or smoky under normal circumstances
  • For warmer rooms – class BR, with a maximum application temperature of 65°C
  • Reacts to a quick rise – a pair of matched thermistors sets the rate of rise response
  • Simple to wire – two wire monitored supply, polarity insensitive
  • Runs on a wide voltage range – 9 V to 33 V

For installers

  • Power: supply voltage 9 V to 33 V, alarm voltage 6 V to 28 V dc. Holding voltage 6 V, holding current 10 mA.
  • Mounting: 100 mm diameter x 42 mm height, 80 g. Designed to IP54.
  • Cabling: two wire monitored supply, polarity insensitive. L1 IN and L2 are supply in, L1 OUT and L2 supply out, and -R is the remote indicator negative.

Frequently asked questions

What does class BR mean on this detector?

It sets the temperatures. Class BR has a maximum application temperature of 65°C and a maximum static response temperature of 85°C.

Is this a rate of rise heat detector?

Yes. BR variants have a pair of matched thermistors, and this arrangement determines the rate of rise response.

How much current does it draw?

Confirm the quiescent and alarm current with Apollo before finalising a circuit design.

Does it have a flashing LED?

No. This part is the BR standard version. The flashing LED version is 55000-126.

Does the wiring have a polarity?

No. It is a two wire monitored supply and is polarity insensitive.

Which approvals does it hold?

Approvals across the range are CPR, LPCB, VdS, VNIIPO, SBSC, FG and BOMBA, and not all detectors have all approvals. Check this part against your specification.

Apollo 55000-127APO heat detector, angled view

Apollo Series 65 Heat Detector, Class BR, 65°C Application 55000-127APO

What this heat detector does

A heat detector reacts to temperature rather than to smoke particles. That makes it useful in rooms where smoke detection would keep false-alarming, such as plant rooms and some kitchens.

This Apollo detector is part of the Series 65 range and is sold here in class BR form. It suits installers and maintainers working on conventional systems in rooms that run warm.

How it works

  • Two thermistors: a thermistor is a part whose electrical resistance changes with temperature. One is exposed to the surrounding air and the other is thermally insulated, and NTC means the resistance falls as the temperature rises.
  • A quick rise: when the air heats rapidly, the exposed thermistor changes first. An alarm starts if the ratio between the two passes a factory pre-set level.
  • Case: the housing is white flame retardant polycarbonate, and the terminals are nickel plated stainless steel.

Where to use it

When choosing between Apollo's heat detector classes, BR is the route where the maximum temperature can pass 50ºC but stays at or below 65ºC, with no sudden increase expected.

A heat detector is slower to respond than a smoke detector in most fires, so it is not a straight swap on an escape route. The system designer decides what goes where.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Application temperature: 65°C is the highest normal ambient the class is meant for. It is not the point at which it responds, which is a separate figure.
  • Lighting the indicator: the alarm indicator needs a minimum of 12 V, even though the detector can hold at a lower voltage.
  • Operating range: the detector works from -20°C to +65°C, so it can also suit cold areas within that range.

Installing it

A remote indicator is connected through the -R terminal, a current sink to the negative line limited to 17 mA.

Detector heads are normally sold without a base, so allow a compatible mounting base for each position.

Planning your system

Get the quiescent and alarm figures from Apollo before you finish a circuit design. Check the panel's end-of-line and load limits at the same time.

Use the same maker's range across a circuit where you can, as that keeps the compatibility question simple.
