About this product

The Apollo SA5900-908APO is an intelligent red call point for raising a fire alarm by hand on an addressable loop. It suits installers on XP95, Discovery or CoreProtocol systems. A built-in short circuit isolator protects the loop, and the resettable element resets from the front with the supplied key.

Key features

  • Nothing to replace after a press – a resettable operating element, reset from the front with the supplied reset key
  • Clear to see it has been used – the element rotates to show yellow and black indication bars, with a solid red LED
  • Helps keep the loop running – a short circuit isolator, shown by a solid yellow LED when operating
  • Visible from the side – a 170° viewable LED
  • Faster first fix – cabling goes to a removable terminal block
  • Test before commissioning – a continuity link for cable insulation testing
  • Choice of fixing – suitable for semi flush or surface mounting

For installers

  • Power: loop powered, 17-35V DC. Alarm current (LED on) 4mA, max at 24V DC.
  • Mounting: suitable for semi flush or surface mounting, 90mm height x 90mm width x 63mm depth.
  • Cabling: E-Z fit connector system, with a removable terminal block and a continuity link for cable insulation testing.
  • Compatibility: operates with compatible Apollo control equipment using XP95, Discovery and CoreProtocols.
  • Standards: EN 54-11, EN 54-17, CPR and LPCB (red version only). IP44.

Frequently asked questions

How is it reset after activation?

With the supplied reset key. Insert it into the front facing LED and turn clockwise until a positive click and reset occurs.

How is the address set?

By a DIL switch at the commissioning stage. A DIL switch is a small bank of on-off switches.

Does it have a built-in isolator?

Yes. It incorporates a short circuit isolator, and a solid yellow LED shows when it is operating.

Which panels does it work with?

Compatible Apollo control equipment using XP95, Discovery or CoreProtocol. Check your panel uses one of these first.

Can it be used outside?

It is rated IP44, but that alone does not make it an outdoor product. Check your specification if it will be exposed to the weather.

What do the LED colours mean?

Solid red shows alarm, flashing yellow a fault, flashing green a poll and solid yellow isolator operation.

Apollo Intelligent Manual Call Point with Isolator, Red SA5900-908APO

What this call point does

A manual call point gives anyone who spots a fire a way to start the alarm by hand. This Apollo model joins a loop of addressable devices, so the panel can identify exactly which unit was used.

The red version is the certified one. The other colours do not carry the same certification.

How it works

  • Fast signal: it has an interrupt feature. In most systems, an interrupt lets a device alert the panel without waiting for its normal polling turn.
  • Panel-driven LED: the panel controls the LED, not the call point. That is why the same light can also show a fault or a poll.
  • Short circuit isolator: this switches the negative line of the loop to separate a shorted section, and the call point keeps operating.

Where to use it

Call points usually sit on escape routes and beside final exits, at positions set by your system design.

The working range runs from -40°C to 70°C, but avoid condensation and icing.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Equivalent Detector Load: each device is rated so that isolator spacing is easy to plan. This call point counts as 1, and the maximum between two isolators is an EDL of 20.
  • Alarm current: use the 4mA figure, with the LED on, for this device in your alarm load calculation.

Installing it

  • First fix: wire the cables to the removable block, and it then fits into the back of the unit. This keeps the wiring separate from the call point until you are ready.
  • Testing the cables: use the continuity link when you run insulation tests before commissioning.
  • Polarity: isolators are polarity sensitive, so follow the loop's positive and negative through the job.

Planning your system

Confirm the panel first, because the protocol must match. Then count devices between isolators using their Equivalent Detector Load.

Keep the supplied reset key where the fire log is held, since it is needed each time the unit is tested or used. As a rule, a spare key is sensible on larger sites.

Standards explained

  • EN 54-11: the European standard for manual call points.
  • EN 54-17: the European standard for short-circuit isolators.
  • LPCB: the Loss Prevention Certification Board, an independent body that certifies fire and security products.
