About this product

The Apollo 45681-333APO is a loop-powered visual indicator base with isolator, a fire alarm beacon built into a mounting base, for signalling an alert in enclosed areas. It suits installers on XP95 systems. It takes a detector or a cap, flashes red once per second and has a built-in isolator.

Key features

  • Adds a visual alert without a separate wall device – a loop-powered visual indicator combined with a standard intelligent mounting base
  • Two ways to use it – with a detector fitted or a cap as a stand-alone alarm device
  • Easy to spot – once per second flash rate, red
  • Flashes together – synchronisation of the visual indicator flash
  • Helps contain a wiring fault – a built-in isolator, a part that cuts off a short circuit
  • Checks itself – when switched on it tests itself by checking the flash operation

For installers

  • Power: 17-28 V dc, polarity sensitive, taken from the loop. At 24 V dc: quiescent 300 µA, switch-on surge 1.2 mA, device operated 3.1 mA.
  • Mounting: 115 mm diameter x 31 mm height, weight 109 g, designed to IP21C.
  • Compatibility: XP95, with Discovery and CoreProtocol compatible. Features depend on a control panel with the appropriate software.
  • Standards: CPR, with EN54-17:2005 for short circuit isolators.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be used without a detector?

Yes. Fit a cap and it runs as a stand-alone alarm device.

Does the 45681-333APO have an isolator?

Yes. This version is supplied with a built-in isolator, and it is declared under short circuit isolators.

Which protocols does it work with?

XP95, and it is compatible with Discovery and CoreProtocol. Its features are only there when the control panel has the appropriate software.

What colour does it flash, and how often?

Red, once per second. Bases on a loop can be synchronised so they flash together.

How is the address set?

With a DIL-switch, a small bank of switches on the unit. A four segment DIL-switch sets a group address, so several units can be switched together.

How can it be tested?

Activate it for at least five seconds and check the control panel for a fault signal. If none shows, the base is working properly.

Apollo 45681-333APO loop-powered beacon base with isolator, open base view

Apollo XP95 Fire Alarm Beacon Base, Red Flash with Isolator 45681-333APO

What this beacon base does

This Apollo base gives a flashing light at a detector position, using the same loop wiring and no separate power supply. It goes where a standard base would go.

It is meant for enclosed areas, so think of it as a local visual alert. A person in the room sees the flash, with or without a detector above it.

How it works

  • Polling: the panel normally talks to the base at its own individual address.
  • Groups: a group address lets one command switch several bases at once. A unit under group control returns no data on that address, so the panel checks them individually.
  • Keeping time: Apollo recommends the control panel sets the synchronisation address at regular intervals, which aligns the clocks in each base.

Where to use it

IP21C is a low rating for moisture and dust, so use it in clean, dry indoor rooms. The polycarbonate body is white and flame-retardant, with a translucent diffuser that spreads the light.

A visual alarm device relied on as the main warning, for example for people who cannot hear a sounder, is normally specified to EN 54-23. Check the approvals you need against the unit's documentation before relying on this base for that, and raise it with whoever designs the system.

What the figures mean in practice

  • Address limits: addresses 1 to 111 are the safe range when group addressing is in use, because the higher addresses are reserved for groups.
  • Loop load: the quiescent and operated currents go into your loop calculation, and the flash adds to the load when several bases run at once.
  • Polarity: polarity sensitive means the two loop wires must go on the right way round.

Planning your system

The job also needs a detector or a cap on top, plus a control panel speaking a protocol this base accepts. In most installations, loop design decides how many isolators and bases a loop can carry.

See the wider Apollo range for detectors and accessories on the same protocol family, and check each against your panel before ordering.

Standards explained

  • EN54-17: the standard for short-circuit isolators, which applies to the isolator in this base.
  • CPR: the Construction Products Regulation, which covers fire safety products built into buildings.
