About this product

The Apollo SA4700-103APO is a fire alarm interface for monitoring contacts and switching mains from an addressable loop. It suits installers linking a fire system to other equipment. It has two input channels and a relay rated 5 A at 30 V dc or 250 V ac, with XP95, Discovery and CoreProtocol compatibility.

Key features

  • Switches mains directly – a voltage free change over relay output capable of switching mains
  • Watches two things at once – two input channels
  • Acts if the loop is lost – Failsafe mode activates the relay on loss of loop or protocol loss
  • Shows what is happening – status LEDs for relay, polling, isolator and inputs
  • Quicker to wire – improved design for ease of wiring meaning faster installation
  • More options on CoreProtocol – nine pre-configured modes and earth fault monitoring, on CoreProtocol enabled systems only

For installers

  • Power: loop powered, 17–35 V dc. Quiescent current 700 µA, max current with LEDs on 5.2 mA.
  • Mounting: surface with the supplied back-box, or flush using a UK double gang back-box of minimum depth 30mm. 60 mm height x 150 mm width x 90 mm depth.
  • Cabling: relay contact rating 5 A at 30 V dc or 250 V ac. Inputs use a 20k end-of-line resistor and 1k input trigger resistor.
  • Compatibility: XP95, Discovery and CoreProtocol compatible, fire control panel dependant. It behaves as XP95 on XP95/Discovery and as Soteria on CoreProtocol.
  • Standards: EN 54-17, EN 54-18, CPR, LPCB, VdS, BOSEC, SBSC, FG. IP54.

Frequently asked questions

Can it switch mains voltage?

Yes. The relay contacts are rated 5 A at 30 V dc or 250 V ac, and they are voltage free.

What happens if the loop fails?

In Failsafe mode the relay activates without being commanded by the control panel, on loss of loop or protocol loss. Failsafe mode is selected with a DIL switch.

Does it work on XP95 and Discovery panels?

Yes, behaving as an XP95 device, depending on the fire control panel. Several features, including the controllable isolator, are for CoreProtocol enabled systems only.

Is a back box included?

Yes. Surface mounting uses the supplied back-box. Flush mounting needs a UK double gang back-box of minimum depth 30mm.

How much loop load does it add?

It has an Equivalent Detector Load of 2. The maximum load for a node is an EDL of 20.

Apollo Intelligent Mains Switching Input/Output Unit, Fire Alarm Interface SA4700-103APO

What this unit does

An input/output unit lets a fire panel see and control things outside the alarm system itself. This one sits on the addressable loop, reads contacts on its inputs, and operates a relay that can switch mains.

It comes from Apollo's intelligent range.

How it works

  • The relay: voltage free means the contacts carry no supply of their own, so they can switch a separate circuit. A change over relay has both normally open and normally closed positions.
  • The inputs: these monitor contacts. Standard monitoring uses a normally open contact with a 1k trigger resistor and a 20k end-of-line resistor.
  • Failsafe mode: with this set, the relay activates without a command if the loop or protocol is lost. The panel sees an analogue value of 17 when it is selected.

What CoreProtocol adds

Several features apply only on CoreProtocol enabled systems. Those are the controllable isolator, the 1 - 254 address range, the nine pre-configured modes, configurable input styles and earth fault monitoring.

The same applies to the single line tolerant input circuit. On an XP95 or Discovery system, do not plan around these.

Where to use it

The IP54 rating and the – 40°C to + 70°C range give it room to work in plant areas, provided there is no condensation or icing.

Typical jobs include signalling to door release circuits or shutting down plant on alarm, and what is switched should come from the fire strategy for the building.

Installing it

  • Back box: install only using a suitable back box, and the unit is marked Class II.
  • Loop wiring: the loop connection is marked polarity sensitive, so keep positive and negative consistent.
  • Reading the LEDs: RLY continuous red means relay active, and a flashing green Poll/ISOL LED means polling.
  • Full method: Apollo's Installation Guide 39215-161 covers the fitting steps.

Planning your system

Count it as 2 when adding up the load between isolators, against the node maximum of 20.

As a rule, mains switching work and any link to door or plant controls is competent-person work, so agree it with whoever holds the fire strategy.

Standards and ratings explained

  • EN 54-17 and EN 54-18: EN standards for short-circuit isolators and for input/output devices on fire systems.
  • BS 7273-4: a standard on actuating door release mechanisms in a fire. Failsafe mode meets its requirements, which applies to that mode, not to a whole door system.
