About this product

The Apollo 45681-201APO is a Series 65 diode mounting base for conventional fire alarm systems that have manual call points and detector bases on the same circuit. It suits installers working on or extending those circuits. A Schottky diode sits across the L1 IN and L1 OUT terminals.

Key features

  • Built for a mixed circuit – for conventional systems with manual call points and detector bases on the same circuit
  • Diode already fitted – a Schottky diode, a one-way electronic part, on the L1 IN and L1 OUT wiring terminals
  • Discourages tampering – a detector locking mechanism
  • Head only goes on one way – a one way fit
  • Keeps the circuit in service – continues to work during unauthorised removal of detectors
  • Screen or earth carried through – contains an earth connector

For installers

  • Cabling: terminals L1 IN, L1OUT, EARTH, L2 and -R.
  • Compatibility: for use with compatible control equipment. Check the panel's documentation before connecting it.
  • Standards: check the approvals you need against Apollo's documentation before specifying it.

Frequently asked questions

What is a diode base for?

It suits conventional circuits that have manual call points and detector bases on the same circuit. The diode is fitted between L1 IN and L1 OUT.

Does it come with a detector?

No. This is the base only. The head is a separate part.

Which detectors fit it?

It is for a Series 65 circuit, so look to Series 65 heads. Check the model against Apollo's documentation before ordering.

Can a remote LED be connected?

Yes. It can be wired to a circuit with a common Remote Indicator.

Does the circuit keep working if a detector is removed?

Yes, the base continues to work during unauthorised removal of detectors. Test it on your own panel at commissioning.

Apollo Series 65 Diode Mounting Base for Conventional Systems 45681-201APO

What this diode base does

A detector base is the fixed part of a fire detector. The cables end here, and the detector head then fits on to it.

This Apollo base adds a diode, for circuits that also carry manual call points. It is a conventional part, so the panel reports by zone and not by device.

How it works

  • The diode: a diode lets current pass in one direction only. With the head removed it can keep the line connected to the devices further along, while the panel can still sense the missing head.
  • Why it matters here: a call point further down the circuit should still raise the alarm while a detector head is off. That is the usual reason for fitting this kind of base.

Installing it

  • Line in and out: follow the wiring diagram for L1 IN, L1OUT and L2. The incoming and outgoing positive line use separate terminals, because the diode sits between them.
  • Last device: the circuit ends with an end-of-line device. Use the value your panel maker specifies.
  • Remote LED: a common Remote Indicator can be added using the -R terminal.

Planning your system

Allow one base per detector position and order the heads separately. A heat detector from the Series 65 range is one option.

The circuit also needs a conventional panel that suits diode bases, and your manual call points. Check the panel's instructions first.
